Rublev – Dimitrov

Rublev Dimitrov Rotterdam prediction

Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov will square off in the ATP Rotterdam quarterfinals, on indoor hard.

Rublev had a reasonably successful season so far, reaching the 3rd round at the Australian Open, the quarterfinals in Montpellier and now the quarterfinals in Rotterdam. The Russian youngster had two good wins this week, getting past Pouille and Dzumhur in two tight matches, but both of them being won by Rublev in straight sets.

Grigor Dimitrov had a similar road to the quarterfinals, winning two tight two setters, but the level of opposition he faced was slightly weaker than Rublev’s (Sugita, Krajinovic). This is Dimitrov’s first tournament since the Australian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, defeating Rublev along the way before losing to Kyle Edmund.

The H2H is tied at 1-1 (both meetings were played on hard courts), and both matches took place in the last 6 months. Rublev won a tight three setter at last year’s US Open, while Dimitrov won 3-1 this year at the Australian Open.

Dimitrov is a 1.45 odds favorite here, but Rublev has proved in these two recent meetings that he can hold his own against the Bulgarian, and pose a real threat to him. With Rublev playing good tennis this week, this might end up being a tricky test for Dimitrov.

Both matches between Rublev and Dimitrov were close, and there is a good chance for this one to follow the same trend. The level of tennis played by Rublev and Dimitrov this week has been similar, and with neither one having a matchup advantage over the other, this could easily turn into a hard fought three setter, or a tight two setter.

The indoor conditions and fast surface in Rotterdam should also contribute to a tight game, as it should be harder to break serve.

All in all, I expect a good quality match with a lot of intense baseline rallies, and there isn`t anything to suggest that one player will be able to dominate the other.

Given the form of the two players, the matchup, the H2H and the fast surface, I will bet on a close fought match here. My tip is over 22,5 total games to be played. If you can find the over 22 at odds around 1.70 (available at less than 10 bookies), it might be a good idea to take that for extra security. Prediction: Andrey Rublev – Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 3-6 7-5.
