Arsenal – Aston Villa

Ozil Arsenal FA CupArsenal and Aston Villa will square off in the closing match of the English football season, the highly anticipated final of the oldest competition in world football – the FA Cup.

After an unbelievable winning run Arsenal ended the season with just 1 win in the last 4 matches, but it was obvious that they were a little bit relaxed and were pretty unlucky as well against Swansea or Sunderland. They stepped it up in the last match with a 4-1 drubbing of West Brom inspired by a Walcott hattrick, making sure they enter the FA Cup final in the best form and with good morale.

Aston Villa seems to have lost form at the worst possible time. They had a good in the last 1-2 months, assuring Premier League safety, but the final two matches of the season were absolutely dreadful for the Vilans – 1-6 against Southampton and 0-1 at home to Burnley. Obviously you can`t judge a team on two games alone, especially coming into a final, but Villa has been really poor on all fronts in these last two games, from defense to offense.

Team news & lineups:

Arsenal is healthier than ever ahead of this clash and it will be a real battle for some of the first 11 spots, with the likes of Giroud, Walcott, Wilshere and Ramsey fighting for 2 available places in the starting lineup. Given and Richardson are questionable for Aston Villa.

Arsenal: Szczesny – Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal – Coquelin, Wilshere (Ramsey) – Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez – Walcott (Giroud)

Aston Villa: Given (Guzan) – Bacuna, Vlaar, Baker, Richardson – Cleverley, Westwood, Delph, Grealish – Agbonlahor – Benteke

Cup finals can always be a bit tricky but Arsenal will be very careful today to avoid repeating last years’ scenario, when they fell behind 2-0 to Hull in the opening 10 minutes and almost blew what looked like a very probable win. I can see the Gunners starting strong and focused, thus making life very difficult for the Villans. With quality, form and last years’ experience on their side, I fully expect Arsenal to win in the space of 90 minutes, possibly with goals to spare.

My tip is Arsenal to win – I`m staying away from handicaps (Villa won`t go down easy) in order to keep the bet safer, but on the other hand I will invest maximum stakes. Prediction: Arsenal – Aston Villa 2-0.
