Belgium – Bosnia

Belgium Bosnia Herzegovina Euro 2016

The tightest group in the Euro 2016 qualifying tournament, Group B, will see a crucial clash between Belgium and Bosnia Herzegovina take place in Brussels. After 6 rounds Wales leads the group with 14 points, Belgium has 11 points, Israel and Cyprus have 9, while Bosnia has 8.

Many expected Belgium to cruise in this group, but the excellent performances of Wales, along with good results from other teams, have Belgium in a precarious situation right now. Sure, they will probably still qualify, but they can`t afford to approach matches without full focus right now. The hosts have lost their last qualifying match against Wales, but they have performed admirably at home, gaining 7 points in three matches with an 11-0 goal difference.

Bosnia-Herzegovina will feel lucky that they are still in the qualifying race, failing to impress so far in this group. Their 3-1 win over Israel last round, along with other results going their way, allowed the visitors to crawl their way back into the fight – but they are still behind Israel and Cyprus, let alone Belgium or Wales. Bosnia will have to improve the performances on the road if they want to get something in Brussels, as their only road win in this campaign came against Andorra.

Team news & lineups:

Marc Wilmots has the luxury of choosing from a healthy squad, while Bosnia-Herzegovina will miss Damir Sadikovic, but will also have all stars available.

Belgium: Courtois – Vertonghen, Kompany, Lombaerts, Alderweireld – Witsel, Fellaini – Nainggolan, De Bruyne, Hazard – Benteke

Bosnia-Herzegovina: Begovic – Mujdza, Spahic, Vranjes, Kolasinac – Besic, Medunjanin, Lulic, Visca, Pjanic – Dzeko

Bosnia barely held Belgium for a 1-1 draw at home and we know how strong Bosnia is when playing on their own stadium. Home court advantage should be a difference maker here, as Belgium is very solid at home, while the Bosnians are notoriously poor travelers. Besides this, looking at the quality difference and the fact that Belgium needs the win (and that they are healthy), you have to expect the Red Devils to prevail at home.

Belgium is steadily growing, they obviously have world class talent in their lineup, but most importantly they have the same squad and the same manager for a while now – so cohesion and team spirit are both on a high note. They really should get the result here. The -1 asian handicap is tempting, but I won`t be greedy and I will simply bet on Belgium to win.

The odds of 1.50 offered by Bet365 are just good enough to make me go with this tip on the straight win here. Prediction: Belgium – Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0.

  1. Benteke is injured but I also fancy a win for Belgium. All the best.

    • True, seems the reports I read were a little bit outdated (he was deemed fit to play). Worked out well for everybody in the end.
