Coric – Kyrgios

Coric Kyrgios betting preview

The last match of the Day in ATP Estoril will feature a duel between young guns Borna Coric and Nick Kyrgios, as the two will fight for a place in the semifinals.

Coric has played some really good tennis on clay this season, reaching the final in Marrakech (def. Vesely along the way, lost to Delbonis). He did lose to Kohlschreiber in the first round in Monte Carlo, but came back here in Istanbul with solid performances against Arnaboldi (6-4 6-1) and Dutra Silva (6-3 4-6 6-1). Sure, the level of opposition was rather poor, but Coric played really well, except the second set against Dutra Silva.

Nick Kyrgios won his only match here in Istanbul against Cervantes-Huegun, but his level was far from impressive in a difficult 7-6 7-5 victory against modest opposition. Nevertheless, it was understandable considering the fact that it was the first match on clay for Kyrgios this year, in a small tournament for his standards. The Australian player has been in good form this year.

This will be the first ever meeting between Coric and Kyrgios, with Coric having an advantage due to the fact that he`s more friendly with clay than the big serving Australian.

Kyrgios is well known to lack motivation in small tournaments such as Estoril and he publicly admitted that himself. Considering the fact that this is a small event, his first of the year on clay and knowing that Kyrgios does not like the red dirt, he looks to be extremely prone to an upset here.

Coric seems to be the perfect player to take advantage of the above mentioned circumstances. He likes clay, he`s young and super hungry for results and he`s in very good form. What`s more, he has a low risk style of tennis, playing consistently from the baseline and not giving away too many free points.

I can definitely see Kyrgios getting frustrated with Coric’s consistency, eventually starting blowing errors all over the place. Coric has many more matches under his belt on this surface and likes it more, he`s also more motivated than Kyrgios, so I can easily see him snatching at least a set here.

My tip on this quarterfinal clash is Borna Coric to cover the +1,5 set handicap, which basically means that he will win at least a set. However, I would not be surprised at all if he ends up winning the whole thing. Odds are very solid, so I reckon an 8 units stake works great for this bet. Prediction: Borna Coric – Nick Kyrgios 3-6 7-6 6-4.

Pick: Coric +1,5 set handicap
Odds: 1.87 @ Pinnacle
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 6.96
