Burkina Faso – Cameroon

Burkina Faso Cameroon betting preview

Burkina Faso and Cameroon will square off in Group A of the African Cup of Nations, which also features hosts Gabon and Guinea-Bissau, who will open up the competition earlier in the day.

The 2013 African Cup of Nations finalists, Burkina Faso, qualified to the 2017 ACN from the first place in their group, claiming 13 points in a pool with Uganda, Comoros and Botswana. Burkina Faso called up a pretty good squad for this competition with many guys playing in Europe. Top players, among others, include Pitroipa (Al Nasr), B. Traore (Chelsea / Ajax), Kone (Malaga), Yago (Toulouse), Kabore (Krasnodar), A. Traore (Kayserispor) or Nakoulma (Kayserispor), all very important players at their clubs.

Cameroon has been hit badly by the news that 8 key players decided not to take part in the competition. This speaks volumes about the problems with the Cameroonian Football Federation and the overall state of football in Cameroon – pretty much explaining why this African Giant hugely under performed on the International stage in the last decade. Key players missing include Choupo-Moting, Matip, Nyom and Assembe. In the qualifiers Cameroon finished 1st in a group with South Africa, claiming 4 wins and 2 draws.

Lineups:

Burkina Faso: Koffi – Kone, Dayo, Paro, Guira – Kabore, Yago – Pitroipa, B. Traore, Nakoulma – Diawara

Cameroon: Ondoa – Fai, N’koulou, Ngadeu-Ngadjui, Oyongo – Siani, Mandjeck – Salli, Moukandjo, Njie – Aboubakar

Cameroon has been dirt poor in the African Cup of Nations for many years now and the forfeit of 8 key players suggests nothing will change this time around. It`s questionable how motivated their players will be and how the morale is in the dressing room, given the recent history and the missing players.

Cameroon still has better players than Burkina Faso, but playing relations and morale will suffer big time. Those are usually more important than sheer quality and it must also be noted that Burkina Faso are no mugs. They are a good team with good players and could challenge even the best version of Cameroon on any given day.

I expect an ugly game here, with Burkina Faso trying to stay solid defensively, while Cameroon will try to build attacks and find spaces to exploit. My guess is Cameroon won`t be able to create much, struggling with chemistry and making a lot of wrong choices and positional errors. It should be a stale affair with not much action in it.

I was going to go with Burkina Faso 1x here, but in all honestly there is not much value on that bet at odds which barely touch 1.70 (the price has already dropped and continues to drop). Instead, I will go with the result that seems most likely, the draw, with insurance in case Burkina Faso wins.

My tip is a draw on the Burkina Faso win no bet market (bet is won with a draw, money back if Burkina Faso wins). Prediction: Burkina Faso – Cameroon 0-0.

Pick: Draw – Burkina Faso win no bet
Odds: 2.25 @ Bwin
Stake: 7
Possible profit: 8.75
Event date: 14 January
