Cameroon – Australia

Cameroon Australia betting preview

Cameroon and Australia will square off in the second round of the Confederations Cup group stage, in Russia, with both teams coming after losses in their opening games.

As it is usually the case in competitions aside for the World Cup, Cameroon was not able to call up their best players for this Confederations Cup. 7-8 of their best guys are missing, but the Lions were still able to put together a good roster led by the Besiktas star Vincent Aboubakar. Reigning African Cup of Nations champions, Cameroon have had a good run in the last couple of years and had a good effort in their first game here against Chile, but they were outplayed and eventually lost 0-2 via two late goals.

Australia put on an entertaining display against Germany (Germany “B” to be fair) a few days ago, though they weren`t able to salvage a point in a 2-3 loss. The defeat was to be expected, as Australia doesn`t have too many quality players in their ranks. They are actually struggling in the Asian WC qualifiers, where they are involved in a dogfight for qualification with Japan and Saudi Arabia. The Australians are also missing a couple of important players like Jedinak in this competition, but are much closer to full strength than Cameroon.

Team news & lineups:

Both teams are at full strength coming into this clash, and should line up in a similar manner to how they did in their previous matches. Cahill and Kruse might come in from the start for Australia this time around.

Cameroon: Ondoa – Mabouka, Ngadeu, Teikeu, Fai – Djoum, Siani, Zambo – Bassogog, Aboubakar, Moukandjo

Australia: Ryan – Degenek, Sainsbury, Wright – Leckie, Luongo, Milligan, Behich – Rogic, Cahill – Kruse

Looking at this match you might think that both teams need a win to stay in contention. While that`s true, it will probably not translate to an attacking oriented game.

The realistic approach for each side will be to avoid a loss (which would definitely send them home), and knowing today`s football, that`s the likely scenario after which the game will unfold. Look for Cameroon and Australia to try not to fall behind, hoping that they can do something at the other end of the pitch in the 90 minutes to earn a narrow victory.

Cameroon might have the slightly better team player for player, but their offense is poor and they find it hard to create chances. Australia is a team that rarely loses, but on the other hand they don`t win as much as they should. In the Asian qualifications for the World Cup, Australia has 4 wins and 4 draws in 8 matches.

Australia is a team that is very prone to draws, while Cameroon is a team that struggles to create goal scoring chances. In an evenly matched clash like this, in which nobody can afford to lose and the teams are hard to separate in terms of quality, a tied result seems to be on the cards.

I definitely think there`s value on the draw, so I reckon that is the bet to take on this match. My tip is the draw, small-medium stakes. Prediction: Cameroon – Australia 1-1.
