Carpi – Inter Milan

The second round of Serie A will see minnows Carpi square off against Internazionale Milano, with the hosts on the back of a heavy beating in their Serie A opener.

As expected, Carpi was handed a tough welcome to the Serie A, as they lost 2-5 to Sampdoria last week and seemed totally unprepared for this level. Without too much talent in the lineup, Carpi’s only chance of survival is discipline and tactical consistency, but neither of those could be seen in the first round – on the contrary. Carpi won`t be able to play their home matches at their own stadium, instead they will take their talents to Modena.

Inter’s 1-0 win over Atalanta in the opening round doesn`t really impress, especially considering that it came in the 93rd minute and Atalanta had a man sent off in the 70th minute. But a win is a win and Inter actually played very good football. The Milan side should have won more comfortably, as they created a lot of opportunities and at the same time stayed safe at the back – which was the most important thing when it comes to Inter.

Mbakogu is the only absentee for Carpi, while Inter will not have Vidic and Dodo. Icardi and Brozovic are questionable.

Inter has the firepower, no doubt about that and they are expected to have fun with a Carpi defense that looked horrible last week. It`s just hard to see Carpi resisting the likes of Jovetic, Hernanes or Palacio, who created so many chances against Atalanta. With Inter showing good defense last round, the visitors look very good value to score at least a couple of goals and not concede more than 1 (if any).

Inter looks good this season, much more stable with their football and consistent than last year – while Carpi could be set for a very, very bad year if they don`t find some tactical organization soon. This could actually turn into a slaughter if the visitors have a good day, Inter`s double 7-0 win against Sassuolo comes to mind.

I will stick with safety and tip a straight Inter win, but my bet will be with maximum stakes. Prediction: Carpi – Inter Milan 0-3.
