Cavaliers – Celtics

Cavs Celtics Game 6 handicapping

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Boston Celtics on Friday night in the Eastern Conference finals Game 6, with the Cavs facing elimination being down 2-3 in the series.

The Cavs tried their best to steal one on the road in Game 5, but as it has always been the case in this series, the home team eventually pulled away and won comfortably. Boston won 96-83 despite not playing great and it was the same old scenario, with Cleveland’s role players being absolutely rubbish on the road.

The Celtics really didn`t have a great Game 5 and were almost inviting the Cavs to come back into the game at one point, but Cleveland’s futility and Boston’s defense kept the Celtics well in control. However, Boston will face a difficult task trying to win on the road. They were smoked in Games 3 and 4 in Cleveland after previously winning the first two games with ease, so they will hope to avoid a similar scenario this time around.

Team news: Nothing has changed as far as the injury report goes. The Cavs are fully healthy, while the Celtics will miss Irving, Hayward, Theis and probably Larkin (who is doubtful again, but chances are he won`t play).

This is a pretty straightforward matchup to analyze, as both teams won their home games with ease so far in this series, and there`s nothing to suggest things will change in Game 6.

The Celtics have been a completely different team away from home this postseason. They are 10-0 in Boston and 1-6 on the road in the playoffs (!!), which is not very surprising considering their youth and lack of experience.

The Cavs are also a different animal at home, where their role players (who are useless on the road) are able to deliver decent performances and help Lebron James. Expect the likes of JR Smith, George Hill or Tristan Thompson to have much more than their Game 5 combined total of 10 points.

Look for Game 6 to follow the blueprint which has been layed out in this series, with the home team dominating the game. Expect Cleveland’s role players to be better and Boston’s young guys to be worse. Expect less turnovers for the Cavs and more for the Celtics.

The fact that this is a must win game for the Cavs strengthens Cleveland’s case, as it is highly unlikely to see Lebron James getting eliminated in his own arena by Boston’s youngsters. My tip is the Cavs to cover the -6.5 handicap. Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers – Boston Celtics 110 – 90.

  1. What do u think about lebron over 33.5 points?

    • Of course he can score more than 33, but I don`t like the bet very much to be honest.

It really depends what kind of match it will be. If the role players are good and the Cavs build a lead I can see him taking a back seat, he needs as much rest as possible for a potential Game 7. And since I expect the Cavs to win big, that`s why I`m not sold out on Lebron scoring over 33.
