Cavaliers – Warriors

Steph Curry finals MVP odds

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be desperate to avoid a sweep in the NBA finals when they host the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 on Friday night.

The Cavs had their chance in Game 1 on the road, when they played as well as they can play and arguably deserved the win (eventually losing by 10 in overtime), but have been outplayed in the next two games, showing the difference in quality between these two sides. Cleveland was blown out in Game 2 in Golden State and ended up losing Game 3 by 8 points at home. They put up a fight, but in the end the Warriors were too good.

Golden State did very well to absorb the initial punch from Cleveland in Game 3 on Wednesday night, as the Cavs came out with a lot of energy and intensity in the first half at home. The Warriors stayed calm and slowly turned the match in their favor, mainly due to an all world performance from Kevin Durant. Golden State’s win was that much more impressive considering that Steph Curry and Klay Thompson both had bad nights.

Team news: Both teams should be fully healthy for this Game 4. Iguodala is a doubt for the Warriors, but he is listed as probable and is expected to play.

I predicted a sweep ahead of the finals, and there`s no real reason to change that prediction. The Warriors proved their superiority so far in this series, and won Game 3 on the road despite the struggles of Thompson and especially Curry.

Steph Curry shot just 3/16 from the field and 1/10 from three point line, having one of his worst ever playoff games, and heavily jeopardizing the Finals MVP award which he seemed to have on lock after the first two games.

Steph is very unlikely to have a second bad game in a row, and Klay Thompson should be better as well, while Durant will be his usual efficient self. As such, the Warriors are expected to be better than they were in Game 3, while the Cavs can`t really play much better. Cleveland got good performances from the likes of Love, Smith or Hood, and these players (except Love) can’t be counted on to score in double digits for two nights in a row.

The difference in quality here is obvious and can not be contested, the Warriors are just superior and come out on top in most matchups and switches, leaving little for the Cavs to do. The question which remains is about motivation, given that the score is 3-0, and Lebron will surely be desperate to avoid getting swept. But Golden State will surely try to end things tonight. They would like to sweep the Cavs, something Kevin Durant himself admitted.

The series was in an idendical position last season, with the Warriors leading 3-0, and Cleveland managed to win Game 4 handily. However, the difference is that they had Kyrie Irving last year, who scored 40 points in that Game 4.

Look for the Warriors to continue their dominance and end the finals tonight. Steph Curry should bounce back after his 11 point Game 3 performance and he should have 25+ points here, as he`s hunting his first Finals MVP, the only award missing from his resume. He stated in the press conference that he will keep shooting with no looking back to Game 3.

All these being taken into account, I will have 2 bets for this game, totaling 16 units. My main tip will be Warriors to win, and I`ll have a sidebet on Steph Curry scoring over 24.5 points. Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers – Golden State Warriors 108 – 115.
