The Dallas Mavericks will host the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night in the NBA, with both teams trying to snap losing streaks of several games.
The Mavericks (13-28, 8-14 home) have one of the worst records in the NBA and have lost three straight games, but these facts create a very misleading impression. Fact is that the Mavs have actually played very good basketball lately. They won the first 4 of their last 7 games, and were unlucky to lose the next three – losing by a combined total of just 10 points against the Warriors, the Bulls and the Knicks.
The Magic (12-28, 5-16 away) also own one of the worst records in the league, but their situation is actually completely opposite to the one of Dallas. The Magic had a good start but have been dreadful in the last month or so. The Magic have lost 13 of their last 14 games (!!) and there are no prospects of them getting better, especially as they are struggling big time with injuries.

Orlando will miss 3 or 4 key players here, so it`s unlikely they will suddenly get better. They have real problems, they are playing arguably the worst basketball in the league lately, and chances are we will see more of the same tonight.
The Mavericks on the other hand are playing well and will be eager to bounce back after suffering three close losses against good and / or in form teams. They do seem to be underrated based on their record and three game losing streak, but neither of those holds much relevance. Fact is they are playing good basketball in the past few weeks, and have gotten consistently better since the start of the season.
With form, home court advantage and quality (given Orlando’s absences) on their side, it`s fair to expect a dominant performance from the Mavs, which should end with a bounce back win for them.
A bet on the handicap line of -6.5 points on the Mavs may seem a bit risky given that all their last 8 games were decided by 8 points or less. However, this should be an easier game for Dallas against a shorthanded team like the Magic, and I reckon they might run away with it unless they have a poor shooting night.
