The Denver Nuggets will host the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night in the NBA.
The Nuggets (44-22, 28-6 home) are attempting to keep a foothold on the 2nd seed in the West as this regular season nears to an end, or maybe even make a push for the 1st seed held by the Warriors. Denver has been great all season, particularly at home (as always), and the hosts are coming after a big win over the Timberwolves a few nights ago.
The Mavs (27-40, 6-27 away) are the worst team in the NBA right now, at least according to form. Dallas lost 11 of their last 12 games (and 6 in a row), including some ugly blowouts along the way. The Mavs were playing very well for the first part of the season, but after making some trades at the deadline, with next season in mind, they just remained without NBA level personnel. They are tanking, and it shows in the results.

The Mavs will continue to be without Barea and Porzingis, both long term injuries. Doncic is dealing with some knee pain, but he is expected to play.
The Mavs won`t have a draft pick next year unless it falls into the Top 5, and chances for that are below 40%, so they were not expected to tank this year. But after the moves they made at the trade deadline, they have no choice but to tank as hard as they can, and hope for some lucky ping bong balls over the Summer.
The Mavs just don`t have enough quality players left, after losing four starters in the likes of Jordan, Smith, Barnes, Matthews, and basically getting back just Hardaway Jr and Jackson for the moment. If you look at the lineups Dallas is fielding each night, it`s basically just Doncic, 2-3 decent youngsters, a 40 year old Dirk, and a bunch of scrubs.
What`s more, Doncic is not feeling good right now, something he acknowledged himself. His dealing with a knee issue and he had a miserable game two nights ago against the Spurs. He said he wants to play every game, so he should be on the court today, but he is not at 100%.
The Nuggets have been one of the best teams in the league all season, and at home they always have the potential to blow anybody out, thanks to the altitude in Denver. When you add that Dallas has been horrific on the road this season (6-27), you can`t really expect anything else than a convincing Nuggets win here.
My tip will be Denver to win and cover the 11 point (asian) handicap. They have everything to play for, while Dallas is tanking and is just looking horrible right now. When you add Doncic being hobbled, it would be a surprise if the Mavs manage to keep this close. Prediction: Denver Nuggets – Dallas Mavericks 122 – 100.
