Nuggets – Warriors

Nuggets Warriors handicapping

The Denver Nuggets will host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night in a matchup between the two top teams in the Western Conference.

The Nuggets (29-13, 18-3 home) currently have the best record in the West and are proving to be the real deal this season. Young, deep, with a superstar in Nikola Jokic and with great home court advantage, the Nuggets are definitely contenders to reach the Conference Finals. Denver is in pretty good form, having won 8 of the last 10 games, but the team did struggle a little in the last 5 games – losing two of them (including against the lousy Suns!) and barely edging two other.

The Warriors (29-14, 12-8 away) have been up and down this season, but even in these conditions here they are just half a game behind the Nuggets – and with the chance to retake the top spot in the West with a won tonight. The Warriors got healthier recently and also stepped up the intensity a bit, so they are now riding a 4 game winning streak, also winning 6 of the last 7 overall.

Team news: The Nuggets have Lyles and Harris questionable. Thomas, Porter Jr and Vanderbilt have not played all season and are still out. The Warriors continue to be without Jones and Cousins. Green is listed as highly probable and he should play.

The Nuggets are no joke, and they are also the best home team in the NBA with an 18-3 record, as the high altitude in Denver gives them a massive advantage. This will be as tough a game as it gets for the Warriors. They already lost here earlier this season, 98-100 back in October.

However, it`s also the kind of game for which the Warriors usually turn up.

Golden State has shown more urgency in 2019, and it`s obvious that they are getting more and more focused as the season goes on. Since they became the No.1 team in the league back in 2014-2015, January has always been the month in which they stepped it up and started getting in shape for the playoffs. In the last 4 years the Warriors have records of 11-3, 14-2, 12-2 and 11-3 in January.

The Warriors will surely look to make a statement in this game on the back of their good form, and retake the top seed in the West from the Nuggets, so look for them to come out strong tonight in Denver.

With the Nuggets still not fully healthy and struggling a bit with form in the last few games, look for the Warriors to prove they are still the best team in the league by some margin. I`m betting they will have a good game, and if they play well, they should beat anybody, anywhere. My tip here will be the Warriors to win. Prediction: Denver Nuggets – Golden State Warriors 107 – 114.
