Dinamo II – Dinamo

dinamo 2 dinamo preview romanian cup

The Romanian Cup Round of last 32 will see an epic duel being played on Wednesday at Dinamo Stadium between Dinamo Bucharest and their second team, Dinamo II. The Romanian football federation incredibly allowed these teams to be drawn together, so it will be a circus for the ages. The tie will be played over a single leg.

Dinamo II is sitting on the 7th place in the Romanian 3rd league Group 2, a spot that reflects the potential of the team, as they are expected to finish midtable. Dinamo II is composed almost exclusively of very young players, generally around 18 years old, who are being trained to hopefully play for the first team in the future. Just like the first team, Dinamo II has an offensive style of play, with an average of 3,38 goals being scored in their matches. They recorded a 3-3 draw against CS Tunari over the weekend and upset a second league team to get to this stage of the Cup.

Dinamo is on the back of a 4-0 win against Pandurii in the Romanian Liga 1, a result that ended a horrible run of form and saw Dinamo return to a playoff position. Still, there are problems at Dinamo, the win came against a Pandurii team on the brink of exctincion, with the visitors not seeming very interested in the match. It was only the second time this season when Dinamo managed to keep a clean sheet, in 14 matches in all competitions.

Team news & lineups:

Dinamo has a full squad to choose from ahead of this match, but coach Andone is expected to use heavy rotation. According to Dinamo II’s manager Dinita, he was left with only 2 players from the first team for this match, which is less than usual. The two players are young guns Tarcoveanu and Dudea.

Dinamo 2 Bucharest: Cobrea – Anghel, Ciobotariu, Georgescu, Groza – Dudea, Vlad – Dulca, Tarcoveanu, Neicutescu – Moldoveanu

Dinamo Bucharest: Penedo – Corbu, Popescu, Janeczek, Olteanu – Mahlangu, Serban, Nistor – Hanca, Popa, Petre

Please excuse me if 1 or 2 players end up playing for the other team 🙂 I`m going with Dinamo 2’s coach statements that he only has 2 first team players available for selection.

The fact that Dinamo has to play Dinamo 2 in the Romanian Cup is obviously a hilarious situation and the match can`t be taken seriously, but I think there`s some very, very good potential betting on goals here.

I talked all season about the fact that Dinamo has a horrid defense and their manager, Andone, is clueless when it comes to organizing a defensive setup. On the bright side, Dinamo has an excellent offense and Andone’s teams always score lots of goals. Results are backing up my statements: out of 14 matches, 11 saw both teams to score, 9 saw over 2,5 goals (average odds well over evens) and Dinamo kept just 2 clean sheets.

Dinamo II is also a very offensive minded side, with 3.38 goals being scored in their matches in the Romanian 3rd league (well over the average of that division).

Both coaches said that they want to play an attacking, entertaining match here in order to please the fans and make the best out of this strange situation.

Of course Dinamo probably won’t want to humiliate its second team, so they will probably stop if they score 4 or 5 goals, but they should score 4 or 5 without any problems and without it meaning a humiliation. I also think there`s every chance that they will concede, especially as coach Andone will probably improvise in defense and Dinamo II’s youngsters will be desperate to bang one in against their Liga 1 opponents. Dinamo will also be very relaxed in a match like this, so I can see the second team scoring here.

As a Dinamo fan, I remember all friendlies between Dinamo and Dinamo 2 ending with scores like 4-1, 5-1, 4-0, 6-2 and so on. Unfortunately I can’t find an official resource for these results (just for the 6-2 two years ago), so you have to take my word for it.

My tip is over 3,5 goals to be scored. Odds have barely been out for 12 hours at a couple of bookies and already dropped from ~2.20 to 1.65. I`m not sure what the future movement will be, but I`m taking no risks and I will bet on this one early. The odds could stabilize, increase a bit, but they could also drop somewhere in the region of 1.30 -1.40, making them unplayable. Prediction: Dinamo II – Dinamo 1-5.

Pick: over 3,5 goals
