Everton – Man City

Everton Manchester City prediction

Everton will take on Manchester City in an anticipated early Premier League Sunday kickoff.

Everton has played really well at home this season, losing just once in 10 Premier League outings – and that was in the 94th minute against town rivals Liverpool. The Toffees won or drew at home against sides like Arsenal, Man United or Tottenham and their home record had much to do with Everton sitting on the 7th place at the moment in the Premier League. Nevertheless, Everton did lose 1-2 at Goodison Park against Leicester in the FA Cup last week, their first defeat in 4 games overall.

Manchester City won 5 of the last 6 matches in all competitions and their results are really solid at the moment, but fact is that Guardiola’s side hasn`t been playing that well. Those wins can be analyzed and will prove to be either lucky, either largely unimpressive, either circumstantial. In 3 of the last 4 matches Man City wasn`t able to create danger up front at all, despite winning 3-0 at Hull and 2-1 against Burnley, while losing 0-1 at Liverpool. On the bright side, Man City is on the back of a 5-0 road victory over West Ham in the Fa Cup, which was indeed a great performance, but the Premier League is a different matter.

Team news & lineups:

Schneiderlin is expected to make his debut for Everton. The Toffees will miss Bolasie, Gueye, Besic and Calvert-Lewin, while Stekelenburg, McCarthy and Oviedo are doubtful. As for the visitors, Man City will not have Gundogan and Fernandinho in the lineup, while Kompany, Sane and Fernando will probably miss out as well.

Everton: Stekelenburg – Coleman, Mori, Williams, Baines – McCarthy, Schneiderlin – Valencia, Barkley, Mirallas – Lukaku

Manchester City: Bravo – Sagna, Otamendi, Stones, Clichy – Kolarov, Toure – Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva – Aguero

City was already in big trouble in the center midfield area, but after Fernandinho got red carded last round, Guardiola doesn`t have a single natural option to field besides Yaya Toure, so Everton could capitalize in that most important area of the pitch.

Manchester City hasn`t been playing as well as results suggest and if you watched them in the last month or so, you can definitely back up this statement. Of course, you can`t win 5 out of 6 and play rubbish football, but City needs to find better form if they are to put on a real title challenge. Finding that rhythm on the road against a team like Everton, which plays so well at home, might be difficult.

I believe Everton has what it takes to secure at least a draw here and I would not be surprised if the Toffees manage to expose Man City’s weaknesses and win the match. Everton lost a single home game this season in the Premier League and I doubt Man City has more than 50% chances to hand them their second defeat. If my analysis is correct, odds of 1.80 – 1.85 on a Man City win are ridiculously low.
