Lopez – Pouille

Feliciano Lopez Lucas Pouille betting preview

Feliciano Lopez and Lucas Pouille will square off in the ATP Stuttgart final, with both players having to navigate through a few very close matches to get to this stage.

Feliciano Lopez didn`t have the best year so far, but he started to find some form late in the clay court season, and was able to translate it on grass. That was no surprise, considering the fact that Lopez is a true grass court expert, one of the few left in the game. The Spaniard had a very difficult schedule here in Stuttgart but was able to play some great tennis and reach the final, defeating the likes of Simon, Chardy, Berdych and Mischa Zverev.

Pouille should have lost his first match this week against Struff, but he managed to save a number of match points (one of them due to dumb luck) and give himself another chance in the tournament. He made the most of it, getting past Kohlschreiber (could have lost that one as well, won less points than Kohli) and Paire, reaching his first ever final on grass.

The H2H is tied at 1-1, both meetings taking place last year, but none of them was on clay. Neither player has a matchup advantage over the other, but Lopez is definitely favored by the grass court surface. Pouile can play well on grass, but Lopez is an expert on it.

Both players have played well to reach this final, but having watched them, it`s safe to say that Lopez was tested much more – and played the better tennis overall.

Lopez got past a number of extremely difficult opponents like Berdych or Mischa Zverev, while Pouille only had to deal with a mediocre Struff, an out of form Kohlschreiber and an inconsistent Paire. What`s more, Pouille barely scraped through all of his matches and could have easily lost each one of them – probably should have lost the first two.

Lopez was broken a grand total of zero times in his last two matches against Berdych and Zverev, while Pouille was a non factor against serve in his semifinal with Paire (1 break point). Given Lopez’s history of being able to hold serve on grass, he should stay pretty safe on his service games – while his expertise on grass should help him win the big points on return, or dominate the tiebreak(s).

It wouldn`t be a shock if this turns out to be a close match, but I reckon Lopez’s experience on grass makes him a clear cut favorite to win it in the end – especially as Pouille is not playing lights out tennis this week. My tip is Lopez to win. Odds on the bet are moving down. Prediction: Feliciano Lopez – Lucas Pouille 7-5 6-7 6-4.

  1. odds on TipsareviΔ‡ droping fast…. Troicki became a father few days ago,he cant wait to be with his familly and rest a bit before Wimbledon … looks promising πŸ˜‰

  2. Bad info πŸ˜‰ i should have guessed … both players from my region πŸ˜‰ tomorrow is a new day i guess…

    • Troicki did exactly what you wouldn`t expect from somebody in his situation, fighting back from 5-7 0-2, but that doesn`t mean the info was bad. It was correct and betting on Tipsarevic was worth a shot.

  3. thanks mate for support πŸ˜‰
