Warriors – Trailblazers

Warriors Blazers prediction

The Golden State Warriors will take on the Portland Trailblazers on Saturday night in the NBA.

The Warriors (23-12, 15-4 home) are coming after an abysmal performance on Christmas Day against the Lakers, losing that one by 26 points at home despite the fact that LeBron James exited the game midway through the third quarter. It really was one of the worst games Golden State played in years, and they will hope to bounce back against the Blazers.

The Trailblazers (19-15, 6-10 away) are having a good season, although it is nothing to shout about, and they are playing the same way they have been for a few years now. Portland is coming after an ugly loss at Utah on Christmas night (by 21) and the team has not played well in the last three games, in which the Blazers suffered two blowout losses and needed overtime to barely edge the Mavs at home.

Team news: The Warriors have the same old injuries (Jones, Cousins), while the Blazers are at full strength.

Even if the Warriors haven`t been at their best this season, a lot of it having to do with injuries and motivation, you have to believe they will be able to bounce back after such a horrible display on Christmas (although you would have expected them to be focused on Christmas too).

Of course, the same can be said about the Blazers, who will want to bounce back after a bad performance on Christmas – but they do not have the talent GS has, and also don`t have the advantage of playing at home.

A team like Golden State rarely has two bad games in a row, and you would expect Steph, Klay and KD to be better after struggling on Christmas. Their mission should be made easier by the fact that they will play again at home, and that the Blazers have been one of Golden State`s favorite opponents, especially at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors have won 13 (!!) in a row at home against the Blazers (including playoffs) by an average margin of 17.15 points. This H2H stat is so incredible that I had to double check my math to make sure I got it right. During these 13 games, Warriors won by double digits 10 times. Earlier this season they beat Portland at Oracle by 28 points, and that was without Steph.

It is obvious that the Blazers have problems against Golden State, and it is easy to make an analysis why. They rely very heavily on their backcourt pairing of Lillard and McCollum, but Golden State is one of the few (only?) teams which has a better backcourt than them. As such, the Blazers struggle to find favorable matchups and eventually are beaten at their own game by a simply superior team.

Portland is playing good basketball this season, but they need something more to beat Golden State, especially when the Warriors are coming in like a hurt lion. The Blazers have been no more than OK recently, and they have struggled away from home all season (lost 7 of their last 8).

With the Warriors expected to come out firing after one of their worst performance in years, and with this being a horrible matchup for the Blazers at Oracle Arena, a double digit win for Golden State should be on the cards. The line is moving towards 9.5 points, a bet which I`d probably take with 7 units, as opposed to my stake of 8 on this -9 (asian) handicap which gives us a bit of extra security. Prediction: Golden State Warriors – Portland Trailblazers 120 – 104.

Pick: Warriors -9
Odds: 1.91 @ William Hill
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 7.28
