Sock – Ramos

Sock Ramos Roland Garros tips

Jack Sock and Albert Ramos-Vinolas will square off in an early Friday match at Roland Garros, with the meeting counting for the third round of the French Grand Slam.

Sock played showcased some very solid tennis this tournament. He had a blackout in the first round against Haase when he lost a 2-0 set advantage, but got over it, won the match and clearly defeated Dustin Brown 3-0 in the second round. 5 out of the 8 sets Sock played in this tournament were world class, which is not a surprise considering his quality – but also his record on clay this year. Sock reached the final in Houston and played two more tournaments, both Masters, defeating the likes of Pella, Paire or Del Potro.

Albert Ramos did not enter Roland Garros in great form, losing 7 out of his 13 matches in the spring clay court season, which is not a great stat for a clay courter like him. Ramos defeated Zeballos 3-1 and Trungelliti 3-0 in the first two rounds, but neither opponent posed much danger and Ramos was not too impressive. Overall he had a solid season so far in 2016, but nothing to really shout about.

Sock leads the Head 2 Head 1-0, but the only match was back in 2014, on indoor hard and the American barely won. Clay should favor Ramos here, though Sock is one of those Americans who can play very well on the red dirt.

This one looks rather simple, Sock is simply the better player, playing the better tennis. He looked very stable after losing those two sets to Haase (a much more dangerous opponent) in the first round, while Ramos did not show anything special this week and simply does not have the weapons Sock has.

Look for Sock to put Ramos under pressure with his serve and powerful forehand and as long as he does not drop his level too much and for too long, he should have way too much in the bag for the Spaniard to handle

I expect the American to win this match and I don`t see him needing more than 4 sets to do it. Odds seem rather low when you look at them, especially as they dropped from almost 1.90 since the bet was out. Much of the value is lost, but the drop was very, very fast. The price is still good enough to be played on a singles bet and I reckon the odds are actually still higher than they should be – as there is a class and form difference here.

My tip here is Sock to win. As far as I`m concerned, Jack Sock should be a 1.40 – 1.45 favorite at most in this match and I`m willing to bet high stakes on this one, despite my disastrous current form. Prediction: Jack Sock – Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 4-6 6-3 6-4.
