Jamaica – Mexico

Jamaica Mexico betting tipsMexico will square off against a surprising Jamaica side in the 2015 Gold Cup final, to be played in Philadelphia.

Jamaica has been rock solid over the last few weeks. Coming after a very good Copa America, where they showed excellent defensive skills, Jamaica proved now that they can also score goals, given more accessible opposition. The Raggae Boyz are undefeated so far in the Gold Cup and are coming after a brilliant 2-1 win over USA. A case could certainly be made that Jamaica has been the best team in the tournament so far and surely the most consistent.

Mexico is coming after an absolute thriller with Panama. Despite having an extra man since the 24th minute, Mexico trailed Panama until injury time and needed two controversial penalties to escape with a 2-1 extra time win. It was a tense, exhausting encounter and surely Panama ended up as the moral winner, but Mexico is the one who will play the final.

Herrera’s men have played surprisingly poor despite reaching the last act and it`s really a wonder they are here after an underwhelming campaign – they won a single game in regular time so far, against Cuba. They drew with Guatemala and Trinidad Tobago in the group stage. In the quarters, they needed an 124th minute penalty to beat Costa Rica 1-0, a controversial penalty, a similar story to the Panama clash in the semis – drama all the way. Something isn`t working as it should be, but all in all the Mexicans are in the final and will rely on experience and individual quality to seal the deal.

Team news & lineups:

Don`t expect too many changes compared to the lineups that took the pitch in the semifinals. Both sides will likely field similar first elevens, if not identical.

Jamaica: Thompson – Mariappa, Morgan, Hector, Lawrence – McCleary, Austin, Watson, McAnuff – Barnes, Mattocks

Mexico: Ochoa – Aguilar, Reyes, Rodríguez, Alanís, Layún – Herrera, dos Santos, Guardado – Peralta, Vela

Mexico has been far from impressive so far and, while they are still deserving favorites, you have to feel that Jamaica has a great shot at winning the Gold Cup. Mexico`s apparent lack of consistency and cohesiveness will fall right into Jamaica’s lap, a team with a brilliant defense and close to perfect tactical organization. Sure, experience will count a lot and Mexico has plenty more at this level, but Jamaica will draw a massive amount of confidence after beating USA and the Raggae Boyz have plenty of players from the Premier League and Championship, who are used to the big stage.

My tip is Jamaica +0,5 handicap, they should at least be able to take this to extra time. Braver punters could also pick Jamaica to win the Gold Cup, as they should also be the fresher team if it goes 120 minutes – considering Mexico is on the back of two exhausting clashes with Cuba and Panama. The Raggae Boyz are so hard to break down and they have been by far the most stable team in this competition, so I`m comfortable going with high stakes on this bet. Prediction: Jamaica – Mexico 0-0 (Jamaica wins at penalties).
