One early bet that I really like for the 2nd round is on the clash between Isner and Zeballos, which will be played Thursday on May 31st.
Isner, the #10 in ATP rankings, has a mediocre record on clay in his career with a 66 win – 55 losses record. In Roland Garros he has a record of 14 wins and 9 losses. He lost to Chela, Berdych, Nadal, Mathieu, Haas, Berdych, Chardy, Murray, Khachanov. In his 14 wins in Roland Garros he managed to cover the 4.5 asian handicap in 8 of them (6 missed AH via winning and 9 via losses, so he missed it 15 times from a total of 23 matches played).
Isner’s record against lefties is rather mediocre too, having won 57 matches and losing 41. He lost 5 of the last 7 matches played against lefties … Norrie, Ramos, Nadal, 2x Zverev. His record against lefties on clay is horrible, winning 7 matches out of 21 played.
Zeballos is a pure clay courter, but he also possesses a very good serve. His record on this surface is amazing, 483 wins and 292 losses during his 16 years played on tour. Last year he demonstrated his qualities in Roland Garros too, getting to the round of 16, after winning against Mannarino in straight, Karlovic (similar player to Isner, sort of) in straight (7-6 7-6 6-3), Goffin by retirement and lost eventually to Thiem (a red hot Thiem tho) in 3 sets.
These two have played 3 times on clay (funny, these are all 3 direct matches) and Isner won them all. All of them are at least 5 years old. Zeballos won a set twice. Sets were as follows: 0 breaks, 1 break, 2 breaks, 1 break, 1 break, 1 break, 0 breaks, 1 break. Zeballos managed to break Isner’s serve only once. This is not that relevant as the matches have been played in the distant past.
I see a close battle here, considering how Isner “loves” a 5-setter I would be surprised to see him win comfortable.
