Millman – Carreno-Busta

Millman Carreno Busta preview

Ardeal has a record of +273.66 units on Betdistrict as a tipster, 3rd best all time. And he came back from -200 units to achieve it! Ardeal has established himself as a tennis expert on twitter and on the most reputable betting websites out there. He was with us since we were struggling in the Romanian market 10 years ago, a true friend of Betdistrict. He`s back as a contributor on the website, with the status he deserves – an editor. Welcome home, mate!

John Millman and Pablo Carreno Busta meet in the Winston Salem semifinals, on hard court, quite an atipical SF for an ATP tournament, but both players deserve to be here.

One of the Winston Salem semi-finals caught my eyes and I think I snapped some nice value in it. Millman seems to be over-priced in this second SF and I think I know the reason why. He defeated today`s opponent back in Miami this year (and defeated him clearly, 6-3 6-2) and beside of that fact, he also defeated Gasquet in the QF’s in this tournament. Millman seemed to be out of pace in the past few weeks, but for some reason he got some momentum going on here in the US. He reached the 2nd round in Cincinnati where he lost to Thiem and here he got to the semis after winning against Nishioka, Ramos, Fratangelo and Gasquet (first 3 matches got into a deciding set).

Carreno-Busta is better known for his clay-court tennis and is called the future of Spanish tennis since 2013 when he managed to win 70 matches in a single year (most of them were of course on the ITF circuit). He has the weapons to push Millman from side to side and also has the better serve, which can get him out of trouble when needed (as it happened yesterday against Kuznetsov when he saved all 7 break points … 3 of them with aces and another 3 with service winners).

Carreno got the best out of Struff, Cuevas and Kuznetsov here in Winston Salem, winning all 3 matches with relative ease – straight sets victories. He proved that he is also a good hard court contender when he got to the SF in Los Cabos couple of weeks ago where he lost to Feli Lopez. I feel like the bookies got that 1-0 H2H in Millman`s favor overrated and I feel that the right bet here would be Pablo to win. Statistically we should have Carreno as favorite here as he managed to hold serve 79% of the time and break 24% of the time, while Millman held serve 75% and broke 26% (stats for last 12 months on hard courts).

I`m picking Pablo Carreno-Busta to win this match with an 8 unit stake.

  2. Ardeal`s tipster record will currently stay separate of his editor record. If Ardeal becomes a regular editor, as we hope, his tipster record will be transferred to his editor record.
