Lakers – Bulls

Lakers Bulls prediction

The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Chicago Bulls in the only match set to be played in the NBA on Tuesday night.

The Lakers (7-10, 5-5 home) are coming after an impressive and somewhat surprising 127-109 win against a solid Denver Nuggets team, and will fancy their chances to claim consecutive victories for the first time in their last 7 outings. The Lakers have been average at best so far this year, and they will probably keep being average, but for all their faults, LA has been pretty decent at home. The Lakers are 5-5 at staples and beat some good teams here, also being competitive in most losses.

Chicago (3-11, 1-7 away) has been pretty dreadful so far this year, and has won just 1 of the last 7 outings. The rebuilding Bulls are in full tanking mode this season, and are coming after an 8 point loss in Phoenix a couple of nights ago. Chicago is second to last in the league in record, points per game and points differential.

Team news: The Lakers have no injury worries aside from the long term absence of Larry Nance Jr. The Bulls continue to miss Mirotic, Payne and LaVine, while Nwaba is highly doubtful.

While the Lakers are nothing special and also won just twice in their previous 7 outings, five of those were away from home. At Staples they have been playing above their means, and have been competitive in all but one of the ten games played there.

LA brings a different level of energy at home, as proved a couple of nights ago against Denver, and while that will usually not be enough against the good teams, it should be enough against the Bulls. Energy was the reason for LA claiming some impressive scalps like the Wizards, the Pistons, the Nuggets or the Grizzlies at home.

Chicago is shorthanded, they are in tanking mode, and they have very poor both overall and on the road (1-7 record). They seem to be playing even worse in the last couple of weeks, and morale is definitely not good. We`re talking about a team which has a player out injured for two months after a teammate punched him in the face.

I`m not sure if I completely trust the Lakers to cover the spread (though they should), so I will stick with the straight win here. Even if odds might seem low at ~ 1.45, I won`t get greedy and I am content to back them at this price. I definitely don`t see the Bulls claiming a win on the road against a side which proved it always plays with high energy at home, so I will go with high stakes on the bet. My tip is a Lakers victory. Prediction: LA Lakers – Chicago Bulls 110 – 100.
