Lakers – 76ers

Simmons Embiid Philadelphia 76ers

The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Philadelphia 76ers at Staples Center on Wednesday night, in a matchup between two of the NBA’s youngest teams.

The Lakers (6-8, 4-3 home) have been average so far, playing within their limits, and the 6-8 record is an accurate reflection of their capabilities. LA is on the back of a 7 point win in Phoenix against the poor Suns a couple of nights ago. It was their first victory in 4 games, having lost rather convincingly against Washington, Boston and Milwaukee in their previous three outings, and will now return at home after a four game road trip.

The Sixers (7-6, 5-4 away) are finally making a push for the playoffs this season after blatantly tanking years in a row for draft picks, and they are looking good value to have a solid campaign. Philly is coming after a solid 4 point road win against the Clippers a couple of nights ago, which was their 6th win in the last 8 games.

Team news: Larry Nance Jr continues to be unavailable for LA, while the Sixers have their usual absentees (Bayless, Fultz, Stauskas and probably Okafor, all backup rotation pieces).

The Lakers have been half decent at home so far, where they defeated 3 teams with winning records (their only such wins so far), but still they are nothing special even at Staples. They will be clear underdogs in this one and the fact that Philly is just a 3 point spread favorite seems a classic case of the Lakers being a bit overrated to me.

I reckon Philly should be favored by at least a couple more points, especially considering that they have favorable circumstances.

Not only are the Sixers a (much) better team, but they have a winning record on the road this season, and are in LA since three days ago (having played the Clippers at the same venue on Monday). As such, home court advantage will definitely be diluted for the Lakers, and this could be an X factor which creates value on the Sixers.

Philadelphia should have enough to win their second game in three nights in LA, so I`m backing them to do just that. I can see Ben Simmons running the show for them, he has been fantastic so far in his first NBA season, and he will have a very favorable matchup against the Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball.

Bottom line, my tip here will be Philadelphia to win and cover the -2,5 point handicap in the process. Prediction: LA Lakers – Philadelphia 76ers 105 – 115.

Pick: Sixers -2,5
