Fucsovics – Ramos

Fucsovics Ramos Geneva prediction

Marton Fucsovics and Albert Ramos-Vinolas will square off on Tuesday in the first round at the ATP 250 event in Geneva, on red clay.

Fucsovics had a remarkable start of the year, his results including a challenger final in Canberra and most notably a Round 16 exit at the Australian Open, defeating Querrey along the way. However, the Hungarian has been very poor since the clay court season started. Fucsovics started with 3 consecutive losses before reaching the quarterfinals in Munich, and after that he lost in the qualifiers in Rome last week to local hope Filippo Baldi. Fucsovics is 2-5 on clay this season, and lost 7 of his last 9 matches overall.

Ramos-Vinolas had a rather bad start in the European clay court season, his first 5 tournaments ending in 4 second round exits and one first round exit. Ramos wasn`t that bad during this stretch, but still these results were a bit underwhelming for a natural clay courter like him. However, the Spaniard got his mojo back last week in Rome, playing some great tennis to defeat Isner and Delbonis before losing to Djokovic in the third round.

Ramos leads the H2H 2-0 (both meetings on clay) and has not lost a set against Fucsovics. What`s more, he lost only 8 games (!!!) in those two H2H matches! However, the last meeting was in 2015 and Fucsovics did win a meeting himself back in 2014, but that was on indoor hard in the French Championship – so it was a low level unofficial competition. Considering these latter facts, it may be unwise to consider that Ramos has a matchup advantage. Still, it is clear that he does have an advantage on clay.

While Fucsovics is an allrounder who can play well on clay, he is a bit more competent on hard courts at this stage of his career, while Ramos is a classic, natural clay courter. The red dirt definitely gives him an edge in this clash, especially as the surface in Geneva is one of the slowest on the tour.

This is Ramos’ favorite time of the year and even though he was mediocre in the first few weeks on clay, he was really good last week in Rome. His wins over quality opponents like Isner and Delbonis were very good results, and he played very solid against Djokovic as well. He lost the first set 1-6 (a set in which Nole played arguably his best tennis of the year), but he was really competitive in the second, barely losing 5-7 despite Djokovic still playing at a high level.

Meanwhile, Fucsovics is coming into the match in poor form, and has been poor on clay all year. His two wins in 7 matches on the surface came against Cecchinato (dead tired after playing 9 matches in 14 days) and Pella (completely out of form). His loss last week in Rome against Baldi was ugly, even though Baldi did have a good tournament, qualifying to the main draw where he took a set from Basilashvili.

Rhythmn could also be something which might work in the favor of Ramos here, because he`s coming after a great week of tennis in Rome, while Fucsovics played just one match in the last 17 days.

Ramos is playing better tennis right now, he`s a superior player on the red dirt and if he plays anywhere near the level he had last week, he should take care of Fucsovics on this slow clay in Geneva. My tip is Ramos to win and I don`t think he should be priced above 1.50 in this clash. Prediction: Marton Fucsovics – Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 2-6 3-6.

  1. Uhh.. yea I’m done with tennis…
I don’t know if that was fixed or what

    • Yeah, many games are fixed, mostly involving Eastern Europe players

    • Anything is possible and surely there are a lot of fixed matches. I agree it was strange (Ramos played so well last week) but unless there is proof there`s no point thinking about a fix.

I still think the bet made sense, but this is sports. Sometimes things will not go as planned and in this business you can`t win them all

  2. Jeez, fixed, fixed. This is the mentality of the cheap gambler from the corner of the street. When the guy there bet or the team lose cleary is fixed fixed. I heard people saying Barcelona sold the match to Rome.I mean people are really stupid. First of all you have to have some proof, playing badly is not meaning you fixed a match. Human body is not like a machine.Maybe Ramos had some of that days that nothing works. It s more likely that then he is in the slice with serbian mafia.Or Barcelona,if you sell a game you don t receive the deceisive goal in the last minutes. Or what about Germany Brazil 7 1… 5 0 in 30 min.I m sure that for cheap gamblers that spends the entire day in the bet agency from the corner of the streets that was fixed.Ho practiced sport knows better. Jeez

    • I completely agree with you. However, I don`t think the guys above fall into this category.

Dave was just expressing his surprise at the result, while Jsid stated a fact. I don`t think they were screaming “fix”.
