Millwall – Leicester

Millwall Leicester City betting preview

League One side Millwall will feel they have a great opportunity to continue their magical FA Cup Run, as they meet an out of sorts Leicester team at the Den.

Millwall has already defeated two Premier League teams in the competition, routing Bournemouth (3-0) and Watford (1-0) at the Den. The team is currently 6th in League One, fighting for promotion and Millwall’s current form gives them hope of advancing against Leicester. The hosts are undefeated in the last 12 games in all competitions (8 wins) and they recorded 7 wins + 1 draw in their last 8 home games.

The Foxes are in complete disarray right now, losing 5 consecutive matches in the Premier League and playing dreadful football in the process. Amazingly, the team failed to score a single goal in more than 10 hours of league football. Leicester dropped dangerously close to the relegation zone and Ranieri admitted that Premier League is now his main focus. This Cup tie has little to no importance for Leicester right now and as a result Ranieri said he will make about 10 changes to the side that lost at Swansea last weekend.

Team news & lineups:

The hosts are expected to field their best available lineup, while Leicester is projected to make wholesale changes. They will definitely not have Slimani available.

Millwall: Archer – Cummings, Webster, Cooper, Craig – Onyedinma, Thompson, Williams, O’Brien – Gregory, Morison

Leicester City: Zieler – Amartey, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell – King, Mendy – Kapustka, Albrighton, Gray – Okazaki

When you look at Leicester’s struggles and their apparent lack of motivation in the competition, along with Millwall’s excellent home form, the natural feeling is that the hosts have a great chance here – especially against a weakened Leicester side. That might be true, but these circumstances have pushed so many money on Millwall that a bet on them to win or draw the game has little to no value.

Millwall likes to play a balanced style of football, but recently the focus have been on defense. The hosts kept 7 clean sheets in their last 8 games and 5 consecutive clean sheets at home. All of their last 7 matches finished with under 2,5 goals. When you consider Leicester has not scored a goal in the Premier League for more than 10 hours and that Bournemouth and Watford both failed to score at the Den, Millwall seems like pretty good value to stay relatively safe at the back.

On the other hand, I doubt Millwall will have it easy against a Premier League team, even if Leicester is in shambles and the FA Cup is last on their list of priorities. Even with a weakened team, Leicester is still the better team and I can see Millwall struggling to create chances.

I reckon this will be a low scoring affair, very close and with few goal scoring chances. My tip is under 2,5 goals. Prediction: Millwall – Leicester City 0-0.
