Magic – Heat

Orlando Magic Miami Heat prediction

Orlando Magic will host the Miami Heat in their season opener for the second straight year. Miami won by 12 in Orlando this time last season, but ended up losing the next three meetings.

The Magic have consistently been one of the NBA’s worst teams in the past 5 seasons, and that is highly unlikely to change this year. Without making any notable moves in the Summer, the Magic have pretty much the same roster which won only 29 games last year. They might actually be worse if you consider they lost Ibaka to the Raptors back in February, but they will hope their young nucleus will show improvement and development over the course of the season.

Miami missed the playoffs last year, but had an incredible second part of the season, going 30-11 after initially starting 11-30, losing the 8th seed in the East via a tiebreaker with the Bulls. The Hear were without one of the best teams in the Conference since January, and are expected to continue on the same note, as they brought back 11 guys from last year and haven`t made any serious changes to the roster.

Team news: Starting SF Ross is questionable for Orlando, but chances are he will play.

Miami knows that the poor start last season cost them a place in the playoffs, and they swore full focus at the beginning of this year in order to avoid something like that happening again.

This Heat team has matured in the second part of the 2017 / 2018 campaign, playing great basketball, and there aren`t any reasons to expect less this season, considering they kept the same group together, and the same long time coach in Erik Spoelstra. The organization is in a good place, which can`t quite be said about Orlando.

I think the difference between Orlando and Miami will prove to be pretty big this season, with Orlando winning around 30 games and Miami around 45, maybe even 50. When this match will be played again in December, I reckon the Heat will be something like 1.45 – 1.50 favorites, as opposed to the 1.70 odds they have now.

Look for the Dragic – Whiteside combo to create all kinds of problems for this young Magic outfit, and the Heat should leave the building with a win. If I were handicapping this game I`d have the point spread at 6 points or so, and I`d still back Miami. As such, my tip is Miami Heat to cover the 3 point (asian) handicap. Prediction: Orlando Magic – Miami Heat 96 – 105.
