Trailblazers – Spurs

Blazers Spurs betting tips

The Portland Trailblazers will host the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night in the NBA.

The Blazers (20-18, 9-10 home) have won 4 of their last 6 games and are currently the 7th seed in the Western Conference. Some might say Portland underperformed a bit this year, they were expected to be slightly better and they needed many close wins and late game heroics to keep their head above .500. As proof, we can look at the fact that 4 of their last 5 wins came by 4 points or less. Nevertheless, they are coming after a big win against Atlanta and played pretty good basketball over the last couple of weeks

The Spurs (27-13, 9-11 away) are the third seen in the West right now and finally got back Kawhi Leonard from injury, so they are ready to attack the 2nd or even the 1st seed in the second part of the season. San Antonio is 7-3 in the last 10 games and is playing well, but the visitors will be shorthanded when they take on the Blazers tonight.

Team news: Fringe players Wilcox will be the only absentee for Portland. The Spurs will rest Leonard and Parker here, while Rudy Gay is injured. There are also questionmarks over the fitness of Aldridge and Green. The first is expected to start, but Green is 50-50

The Spurs will miss three key players here, maybe four, including their main guy Kawhi Leonard. Even if San Antonio’s strength comes from their system, and they often win when guys are out, it will still be difficult to win this way on the road against a strong playoff team like Portland.

The Blazers are playing well lately and they will fancy their chances to take advantage of the opportunity they have, and get a big scalp at home – with a win potentially being very important in a very tight playoff race in the West.

It has to be said that the two sides met at the same venue less than one month ago, and Spurs won 93-91 despite not having Parker and Leonard available in that match either. However, they did have Gay and Green (who`s questionable today), and the Blazers were in worse form at that time. Portland also shot less than 40% from the field and 24% from three, horrible percentages which are unlikely to be repeated.

I reckon the Blazers should do the job and claim victory at home against this shorthanded San Antonio Spurs side. Given that Portland is often involved in close games, I will back the straight win as opposed to taking the handicap – even if the point spread is just -2 points. My tip is the Blazers to win. Prediction: Portland Trailblazers – San Antonio Spurs 106 – 100.
