Betis – Malaga

Joaquin Betis return fans

Real Betis will play host to Malaga in the opening match of the Spanish Primera Division 6th round.

Betis is on the back of a 0-1 away loss in the derby against Sevilla, the 4th time they failed to win in the 5th rounds elapsed so far. It was actually one of the best performance Betis put on this year, as they have not been impressive so far, failing to pick up wins despite having a rather easy schedule. The hosts will try to build on that performance and a similar one today might be enough to pick up at least a draw.

Malaga is in the same situation as Betis, claiming just 5 points in the 5 matches played so far in La Liga. Malaga defeated Eibar 2-1 at home in the previous round. The team did not play much better than in the previous 4 rounds, but it was a good and very important victory nonetheless.

Team news & lineups:

Sanabria and Martin will definitely miss out for Betis, but there are also small questionmarks over the fitness of Durmisi, Piccini, Castro and Mandi. At least some of them are expected to play though, otherwise Betis would miss its entire back line. As for Malaga, they won’t be able to count on Weligton, while Juankar is doubtful.

Betis: Adan – Piccini, Pezzella, Mandi, Durmisi – Brasanac, Petros, Musonda – Joaquin, Alegria, Castro

Malaga: Kameni – Rosales, Kone, Llorente, Ricca – Juanpi, Kuzmanovic, Camacho, Jony – Ramirez, En Nesyri

Neither of these two sides can afford a loss today and, honestly speaking, neither seems good enough to escape with the win. Betis has the first chance due to playing at home, but Malaga is arguably a slightly a better side quality wise and will surely make life difficult for the hosts.

Last season both direct meetings were very close, each team winning 1-0 on the road. Strangely, the two teams have not recorded any draws in their last 7 Head 2 Head meetings.

All in all I can see a draw here, a result that will probably be acceptable for both teams. As previously stated, neither Betis or Malaga seem to have the strength to win this one. As such, my tip here will be the draw. Simple bet with low stakes. Prediction: Betis Sevilla – Malaga 1-1.
