Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev will square off in the ATP Halle final, with Federer looking to nail a record 9th title at the event.
After a hiccup in Stuttgart where he lost to Haas in his opening grass court tournament, Federer recovered well to play some very solid tennis in Halle, which has been his best tournament over the course of his career. The Swiss Maestro hasn`t lost a set so far this week, defeating Sugita, M. Zverev, Mayer and Khachanov in straight sets.
Alexander Zverev will look to avenge his older brother, Mischa, who lost to Federer earlier in this tournamnet, but more importantly he will look to win his first ever title on grass. Zverev had a decent tournament last week in Hertogenbosch (though he was outplayed by Muller in the semifinals) and continued his good form here in halle, defeating top opponents like Kohlschreiber, Bautista Agut and Gasquet. He lost against each of the last two.

This might be a reason while odds on Federer are pretty high to win this match, but the H2H doesn`t really teall a story. Alexander Zverev is playing good tennis at the moment, but he is not at his absolute best level. He`s not exactly “in the zone”, and the proper opponent will take advantage of this.
Zverev was completely outplayed by Gilles Muller last week in the Stuttgart semifinals, being dominated big time by the Luxembourgese player. He had stretches where he was inferior to his opponents this week, but mistakes from the likes of Bautista-Agut or Gasquet helped him get over the top and reach this final.
Federer is not necessarily as his absolute best level himself, but he is playing good tennis, he found his rhythm on grass and will surely push to win this final once he got here. This is a very good version of Federer, he is limiting his unforced errors and is definitely in good form. He is clearly on a mission to score points on grass after skipping the clay court season and being upset last week in Stuttgart.
For Zverev to win this match he should be at his absolute best level, and Federer should be a bit below himself. That is simply not the case, as Zverev is playing Ok but not great, while Federer has been solid all week.
Odds on Roger Federer to win represent real value to me, I wouldn`t have priced him over 1.35 – 1.40 (at most) in this match. As such, I will ignore bets with higher odds (like handicaps) and I will stick with the straight win.
Expect a good game with Roger striking in the important moments and claiming a relatively confident victory. My tip here is Federer to win and I find no reason for which I shouldn`t take this with max stakes. Prediction: Roger Federer – Alexander Zverev 6-4 6-7 6-4.
