Romania – Denmark

Romania Denmark betting preview

Romania will host Denmark at Cluj Arena, with both teams knowing that a loss would almost end their already slim chances of qualifying to the 2018 World Cup.

Group E has been dominated by Poland so far and they already seem like sure winners after 4 rounds. Montenegro, Denmark and Romania (in this order) are separated by 2 points and are fighting for the second place.

Romania lost 0-3 at home to Poland in the last match, putting in another weak performance on the offensive end. The hosts have played poor football in this campaign, having drawn with Kazakhstan (0-0) and Montenegro (1-1), while their sole win came in Armenia. It was a 5-0 victory back in October, with Romania playing their only good match of the campaign, but they were also helped by Armenia having a player sent off early on.

Denmark has just 1 point above Romania in the standings and they did not play much better football, though they did show some good potential in a couple of their matches. Denmark started with a 1-0 home win against Armenia, lost 2-3 in Poland, lost 0-1 at home to Montenegro and recovered to beat Kazakhstan 4-1 in their last official match.

Team news: Both teams have massive injury problems on the offensive end. The Romanians will miss their best striker Andone (La Coruna) and their current top scorer Stancu (Bursaspor). Denmark also misses their two best strikers, Dolberg (Ajax) and JΓΈrgensen (Feyenoord).

The visitors are not a much better team than Romania and they have plenty of weaknesses. That being said, they did play slightly better football in this campaign and they own players of better quality. Denmark seems to have what it takes to nullify the home court factor and make this a very evenly matched clash, but they don`t seem to have the strength to take control of the game.

The Romanians are talking about needing a win, but in all honesty they would probably be content with a draw and so will Denmark. A draw would keep the (slim) hopes up and maintain the suspense in the next round of qualifying. Fact is that nobody can afford to lose this game and we know how cagey and slow these kind of matches can be, especially at International level.

I expect a close, rugged clash with neither team taking risks and neither team being able to impose their play. Look for a blunt battle in midfield with not too many goal scoring opportunities, especially as Romania is a team that has big problems when it comes to creating chances and finding the net (5 of their 6 goals in these qualifiers came against Armenia).

Add the (very important) fact that both teams are missing their main strikers and a bet against goals makes sense here. Odds are not spectacular, but they are solid, I would have priced the under at 1.50. My tip will be under 2,5 goals to be scored. Prediction: Romania – Denmark 0-0.
