Kings – Warriors

Draymond Green Kevin Durant Memphis Grizzlies

Golden State Warriors will take on the Kings in Sacramento on Sunday night / Monday morning, after the Warriors suffered a shock defeat to Memphis in their last game, two days ago.

Sacramento (15-21, 7-9 home) is fighting for a playoff spot this season, but the Kings just can`t seem to get it together despite having a superstar like DeMarcus Cousins on their roster. This year is the perfect opportunity for Sacramento to finally get back to the playoffs, as the 8th seed is up for grabs, but the Kings can not find consistency and have lost their last two games at home against poor opposition: the Heat and the banged – up Clippers.

Golden State (31-6, 15-3 away) blew a 24 point 3rd quarter lead against Memphis two nights ago, shockingly losing in overtime a game that seemed to be a routine blowout in their favor. The Warriors went stone cold in the 4th quarter with nobody other than Steph Curry recording a field goal. There were just 4 field goals for Golden State in the 4th quarter + overtime and the loss sparked a lot of discussion both in the media and in the Warriors locker room, as it showed surprising weaknesses for the best team in the NBA.

The Warriors own a 12 game winning streak against Sacramento and that is not a coincidence. Fact is that Sacramento’s style of basketball falls right into Golden State`s hands, as the Kings like a fast place and are poor defensively – the perfect victim for a team like Golden State. For Sacramento, there has never been a worse time to meet the Warriors.

Golden State is well known for responding instantly after losses. They haven`t suffered consecutive losses in the regular season since April 2015 (an NBA record of 124 games!) and there has rarely (if ever) been a game in which they suffered more criticism and controversy than the last defeat against Memphis. They will be out to prove a point, that is for sure.

With the addition of Durant put into question and with the Warriors players themselves coming out publicly and demanding an improvement from themselves, I expect Golden State to be at full focus ahead of this game, desperate to win and desperate to not allow the opponent back into the game, which has been a trend recently. Draymond Green noticed how Golden State plays too casual in the 4th quarter when holding big leads, so I expect the Warriors to be extra careful tonight in the 4th quarter, which is a huge plus when you think about them covering the point spread.

The fact that they meet an opponent like Sacramento, against whom they match up well against and who is poor defensively (also playing poor overall recently), represents even more incentive to bet on Golden State to win by a fair margin.

I expect the Warriors to come out strong, dominate as they always do and this time they should not let the potential / probable big lead slip away in the 4th quarter. I can see them playing with a killer instinct, being extra careful in the 4th even if they lead by a big margin and eventually winning this by 20+ points. My tip is Golden State to cover the 11 point handicap. Prediction: Sacramento Kings – Golden State Warriors 105 – 125.
