The Golden State Warriors will attempt to sweep their third consecutive series in the NBA playoffs, as they meet the Spurs in San Antonio as 11 point spread favorites.
San Antonio fell apart after losing Kawhi Leonard in the third quarter of Game 1, and they had no answer for the Warriors since then. The Spurs were outscored by 73 points (!!) in 9 and a half quarters without Kawhi and are on the back of a 12 point home loss in Game 3. What`s worse, the already injury ravaged Spurs have also lost key backup big man David Lee in Game 3.
The Golden State Warriors won Game 3 by 12 points in Texas, but they could have easily done it by more, as it was a routine win and they were always in control after the 1st quarter. Golden State can become the first team in NBA history to sweep the first three rounds of the playoffs and they will definitely try and go for it tonight in San Antonio.

Reports are indicating neither of them will play in Game 4 and coach Popovich said “Leonard will most likely sit out”. It`s hard to see the Spurs having any answer for the Warriors after they were blown out so far in this series when Kawhi Leonard was out. Even Game 3 which they lost by “only” 12 points was a bit of an aberration, as Golden State had 21 turnovers and a depleted Spurs side shot almost 50% from the field – something they are unlikely to do again.
The Spurs came out with a lot of energy in Gaem 3, had a very good overall game and still they lost by 12. Now, chances are they will be a little bit deflated after it became clear they will lose the series, so they might not have the same level of intensity.
The 11 point spread seems perfectly within Golden State’s reach against a San Antonio side which is depleted by injuries, old, tired and low on morale. The likes of Gasol and Ginobili fought their hearts out in Game 3 and it`s doubtful if they have anything left. San Antonio just doesn`t have enough personnel to compete with the Warriors, so I expect Golden State to close this series out in dominant fashion.
My tip is Golden State to cover the 11 point handicap and one thing I like about this spread is that it limits the impact of garbage time, which can often ruin large handicaps when the favorite team is leading late. If Warriors are ahead by 20 points or so with 5 minutes left to go, garbage time won`t be enough to cut the lead below 10. If the Warriors are ahead by just 10 – 15, there will be no garbage time, as Golden State pulls out the starters in the playoffs only when they are up by 18 points or so late in games.
I waited to see if anything chances about Kawhi Leonard’s status, it hasn’t, so I am comfortable with a high stakes bet on this pick. If Kawhi somehow plays, the bet will lose its value, but it could still well be a winner – I think the Dubs would win by double digits even with a banged up Kawhi on the floor.
