Top 5 gambling movies you haven`t watched

When you are looking for movies about gambling, titles like Rounders or Casino, even oldies like The Sting (my favorite) or The Cincinnati Kid, will always always come up. However, there are a few gems out there which are actually more gambling oriented than most usual recommendations, and which are sure to please the soul of any gambler and / or sports bettor.

I`m betting you haven`t watched any of these, and you definitely should. Here`s a Top 5 list of the most underrated gambling movies ever to be made. My personal recommendations.

Lucky Girl (2001)
You would expect this to be a cliche teen flick with a hot girl and a standard storyline, but you will be surprised. Not many films encompass the thrill of gambling as well as this. Sure, it`s not “The Gambler”, but I was shocked how good this was considering the fact that I didn`t have high hopes. It brought back memories and made me regret that Elisha Cuthbert didn`t attend my high school.

High Roller – The Stu Ungar Story (2003)
Quality film about a poker legend and his ups and downs. It portrays Ungar’s story both on and off the table. Not much more to add, you will like this.

Big Shot – Confessions of a Campus Bookie (2002)
Solid film which is heavily based on a true story regarding a point shaving scandal in US college basketball. The movie reflects gambling in a correct way, and if you`re a sports betting enthusiast, there`s a very good chance you will absolutely love this flick.

Bookies (2003)
Very entertaining for any gambling and particularly sports betting enthusiast. Can be viewed as a comedy and it is no masterpiece, but it is mostly accurate in depicting the process and drama of betting on sports. Might make you nostalgic about the good old days.

Poolhall Junkies (2002)
Classic pool hustling movie, comparable to greats like The Hustler or The Color of Money, but much less known. Christopher Walken also makes a brilliant appearance in this.

    • Thing is it`s a pretty well known movie, so I don`t think it fits in this article. But yea, a good one, especially for tipsters like us. It might make my Top 5 overall.

  3. I see Stu Ungar story and it was a good movie. Cant find lucky girl anywhere 🙁
