Tottenham – Juventus

Tottenham Juventus betting preview

Tottenham will aim to secure a historic qualification to the Champions League quarterfinals, as they host Juventus at Wembley after claiming a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

Tottenham did very well to come back from 0-2 down and leave Italy with a draw three weeks ago, a result which they definitely deserved. Spurs have been in very good form lately and their home record is magnificent, as they have 13 wins and 2 draws in their last 15 games at Wembley in all competitions. The hosts are on the back of a 2-0 win against Huddersfield and will be confident coming into this clash.

Juventus hasn`t played very well lately, struggling to get wins, but nevertheless the Italian Champions have still been able to complete the job – winning games and also getting some good victories recently on the road against rivals Torino or Lazio (who they beat via a 9rd minute Dybala goal on Saturday). Juve is undefeated in all competitions since November.

Team news & lineups:

Alderweireld and Aurier are unavailable for Tottenham, and that will give them some minor problems in defense, but Aurier is replaceable and Alderweireld is a long term injury. Juventus will be without Mandzukic, Cuadrado and Berdardeschi, while Higuain is a slight doubt, but should play.

Tottenham: Lloris – Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies – Dier, Dembele – Alli, Eriksen, Son – Kane

Juventus: Buffon – De Sciglio, Benatie, Chiellini, Sandro – Pjanic, Khedira, Matuidi – Dybala, Higuain, Costa

Some may argue that Tottenham has played slightly superior football to Juventus lately, but fact is both teams are excellent and look very hard to beat. Juventus has not lost a game since November, while Tottenham hasn`t lost since December (and hasn`t lost at home since October). The Spurs have just two defeats at Wembley all season.

This should be an evenly matched clash, just like it was the case in the first leg. Spurs are favorites according to the bookmakers, but odds of 2.20 for them to win do seem a little low.

The European experience of Juventus will be very important here and might just be enough for them to qualify, given that Tottenham isn`t quite used to playing such big matches and will be under big pressure to deliver at home. Recent history forces us to give a certain amount of respect for Juve in big games, and when push comes to shove they are the team which likely is worth backing in a critical situation.

All in all my tip here will be Juventus to cover the +0,5 handicap (win or draw), a bet which I think has an extra degree of safety given that Tottenham doesn`t really need to win, and would be satisfied with a 0-0 or 1-1. A draw does seem likely between these two good teams which just don`t seem like they can lose a game. Prediction: Tottenham – Juventus 1-1.
