Tottenham – West Brom

Tottenham West Brom betting preview

Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion will square off in a Saturday afternoon Premier League match, with Spurs looking to continue their excellent recent run.

Tottenham is currently on a 6 match winning streak in all competitions, 5 of those wins coming by 2 or more goals and none being more important than the 2-0 win over Chelsea in the previous Premier League round – which saw them climb into a Top 4 position. Last time out Tottenham defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at home in the FA Cup, a very poor performance by Spurs, but still a good win considering that Tottenham pretty much fielded the “B team”.

West Brom is on the back of a surprise 1-2 loss to Derby County in the FA Cup, but there is no reason for worry, as the team has won the last two games in the Premier League and sits on a very respectable 8th place in the standings. West Brom has been surprisingly goal-friendly in the last few games, but that is likely set to change as they travel to White Hart Lane and will use a much more defensive minded approach.

Team news & lineups:

Tottenham continues to have a clean bill of health with the exception of Lamela. West Brom will miss Nyom, while Berahino, Brunt and Evans are questionable.

Tottenham: Lloris – Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose – Wanyama, Dembele – Dier, Alli, Eriksen – Kane

West Brom: Foster – Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Olsson – Yacob, Fletcher – Chadli, Morrison, Phillips – Rondon

Spurs are probably the most in form team in England right now, but even so this has the potential to be a tricky game against a West Brom team that will come to White Hart Lane with the clear intention of parking the bus.

Tony Pulis is well known for his traditional long ball style and his ability to play ultra defensive football against the big teams. Just a few weeks ago West Brom traveled to Arsenal, defended in numbers and was able to frustrate the Gunners, barely losing 0-1 via a late Giroud goal. They also lost 0-1 at Chelsea back in December.

Tottenham scored a lot of goals recently, but overall they aren`t quite specialized in breaking down crowded defenses and they might also feel some hangover after so many wins in a row. I believe Spurs will have problems finding spaces through WBA’s defense. As for the visitors, it`s highly unlikely they will be able to score against the best defense in the Premier League (Tottenham allowed 14 goals in 20 matches).

I recommend a bet against goals, particularly as the odds are excellent. Actually, the price is good enough to allow a bet on under 3 goals as opposed to the riskier under 2,5. As such, my tip is under 3 goals to be scored. Prediction: Tottenham – West Brom 0-0.

Pick: under 3 goals
