Vikingur – FH

Vikingur hafnarfjordur betting preview

Vikingur and Hafnarfjordur will square off in the second leg of this Champions League 2nd qualifying round, with the Faroese hosts coming after a 1-1 draw in Iceland. The match will be played in Torshavn, on artificial grass.

Vikingur was a heavy underdog last week but managed to claim a 1-1 draw on the road, an impressive result and a confirmation of Vikingur’s good form. The hosts just won their first ever European tie against Kosovo’s Trepca’89 with a fantastic 6-2 aggregate scoreline, although that was influenced by Trepca’ getting a red card early in the second leg (which they eventually lost 1-4 at home). Vikingur is currently tied in points for the first place after 14 rounds in the Faroese League.

Hafnarfjordur is 3rd in Iceland after 11 rounds and the reigning Champions are not having the best season, posting a 4-5-2 record and trailing leaders Valur by 7 points. The 1-1 home draw against Vikingur was definitely a disappointing result for FH, even though they should have won that game – as they heavily dominated it and were equalized via a fairly late penalty kick.

Vikingur is looking pretty good right now, but fact is they remain an amateur side, and their results so far in Europe had a lot to do with luck – as they benefited from red cards, penalties and dodging many clear cut scoring chances from their opponents.

Icelandic football is clearly far superior to the one in Faroe and FH is a quality, professional side with some class players in their ranks – including some foreign guys with experience in top leagues, or a few players who are in contention for Iceland’s National team. The visitors had some impressive results in Europe over last years, including losing 3-3 aggregate to Dundalk last season – with Dundalk going on to have an excellent European campaign after that result.

Even if the visitors aren`t having their best season so far, they aren`t having a poor one either. Hafnarfjordur was dominant in the first leg and showed the quality difference between the two teams, despite the result.

I expect Vikingur’s Cinderella run to end here against a much better side, used to playing and competing with bigger clubs at this level. My tip is FH to qualify, but I wouldn`t push the stakes more than 7 units given the fact that it`s a low level clash and we are missing info like team news, also having not watched the teams play on a regular basis. Prediction: Vikingur – Hafnarfjordur 1-2.

Pick: Hafnarfjordur to qualify
Odds: 1.57 @ 10Bet
Stake: 7
Possible profit: 3.99
Event date: 18 July

  1. Jeez west ham did not want to score agains an amateur side today. Watching a part of the game it was really bizare how thay played.

  2. Odds just moved significantly towards Viking… wonder what’s up?

    • To be honest I`m not surprised, because initially they dropped big time on FH and maybe it was a bit too much. Seems like natural movement to me

  3. Hope so. Took DNB at 1.37 and it’s moved to 1.63 since early morning

    • I`m not too worried, odds movement is rarely a reason to panic. In this case though team news are an unknown, as I said in the pick, so that`s my only concern. We`ll see.
