Gael Monfils vs Dominic Thiem
Very interesting match in QF's tonight in Indian Wells.
Bookies say Monfils the favorite to win, and for sure he has many things going for him
- Excelent form in last weeks (SF's in Sofia and Dubai, won Rotterdam)
- Amazing form this week (lost only FIVE games in last two matches vs Ramos and Kohlschreiber)
Monfils looked deadly in his last two games and is the player in form, even if Thiem also played well in IW (beat Thompson, Simon and Karlovic in two sets each, without problems). But Thiem did not show the kind of tennis Monfils did IMO, and was in bad form before IW.
The interesting thing and the problem for Monfils is that Thiem has 4-0 H2H advantage. That is not good news for Monfils.
But if there is a moment and a day for Monfils to beat Thiem, this is it. Monfils is playing his best tennis in a long time and is doing it week after week. He was unstoppable this week.
If we ignore the direct meetings, Monfils is a banker. Of course we can not ignore that, but I am taking the risk against the H2H statistic, because is hard for me to see Monfils losing against anybody other than maybe 2 or 3 players this week ... and Thiem is not so scary to be one of them.
