Dominic Thiem plays final against Phillipp Kohlschreiber in the final at Stuttgart, Kohlschreiber is more likely to win, at least that is what odds say. I am not so sure.
Of course the big news is that Thiem has beat Federer in the semifinals, a fantastic game by Thiem. Many will say that Federer was not his best, of course he wasn`'t .. if he was, it would be a win for him for sure. But I thought Federer played really well and Thiem deserves full credit for winning.
What impressed me was how Thiem saved a couple of match points, 0-1 down, on grass, against player like Federer. Real impressive for a young guy. It will give him amazing confidence for the final for sure.
Kohschreiber is alwaus great on grass and he had a perfect tournament, 2-0 wins on the line. But thing is he did not play many great opponents., only Del Potro, but he is not the player he was. At least not now.
Kohlschreiber will always be a dangerous guy on grass court, but I think Thiem is the guy to beat today. Thiem is young, hungry, a better player at the moment and had a much superior season compared to Kohlschreiber who only exploded this week in Stuttgart.
Thiem will win imho, but perhaps Kohlschreiber will play a great game and win in 3, so just +1,5 set handicap for Thiem for me.
I think Thiem defense will be too much for Kohlschreiber to handle.
PS: A few months ago this year Kohlschreiber win a match against Thiem 7-6 4-6 7-6.
