Granada - Malaga

Interesting game coming up tonight as Granada and Malaga will try to take a step forward in the La Liga (round 13). Neither team should be delighted with their present results because the home side stands with 4-2-6 (8-12) at the 12th place while their opponent is right behind them 3-4-5 (14-16). The difference is only one point but will it be shown off on the pitch? Let's see it.

Granada started the season with a hopeful victory over Osasuna but then, a massive 5-game winless series pulled them back. Nowadays, they are to regain their braveness and power as having earned 3 victories in the last six matches (vs A. Bilbao, Elche and Levante). As far as their home statistics are concerned they have got more than a poor form: 1 win and 5 defeats and only 3 goals scored. This is disastrous, tonight they will be highly motivated and keep the scoring chances of the opponent team low. They will try this without right-back Nyom (rating: 7.11), so French defender Dimitri Foulquier or Murillo could be drafted in to take his place. Taking this into account, the defense has to face a much tougher situation, however, Roberto the veteran goalkeeper is the best player in the team (7.26). Diakhaté and Mainz are the predicted two central backs (6.9 & 6.52), they haven't played together this year. With Iturra and Yebda (6.8 & 6.7), Granada has the ability to defend the lead and open the wings for Pereira and Benitez (both 6.5). In the forward line they have El-Arabi, but Piti the other option is injured now. This is not their constant line up and I wonder whether it will really be a 4-3-3. As I mentioned they have scored 3 goals at home and with an average of 11 (3) shots this is a 4.5% rate in goals/shots. I don't see them scoring bunch of goals or creating scoring chances. Addition to this, as a tendency they usually attack down on the right side (42%) and shoot from the middle (65%). In my opinion this is a strategy which can be easy to defend against.

Malaga wasn't able to win a single game away since the league started. I wonder when they will do. This can be a great matchup for them. Malaga boss Bernd Schuster seems settled on his new 4-1-4-1 formation, which paid dividends last weekend as he saw his side overcome Real Betis. The victory brought to an end a miserable six-game winless streak. Since the big names left the club, Malaga has become an average team again. They try to build up an experienced defensive line with Angeleri, Sanchez, Antunes and Weligton. But they don't seem very reliable, it is a constant problem to defend against set pieces. Tonight, Santa Cruz could be left out who scored 2 out of 3 away goals for Malaga. Tissone gained an important role in the new team and he seems to perform well (7.07). Mounir El Hamdaoui is injured (3 goals). During the away matches, they let the opponent shoot about 14 times on the goal and 11 shots come from their side. Having scored 4 goals, 6% of the shots end in goals (a little better than Granada). So neither team will be able to score more than one goal I think.

My pick is that not both teams will score. I expect a 0-1 Malaga victory.
