Valenciennes - Le Mans
Valenciennes surprised everybody with their incredible finish of the year (4 wins and a draw, with win versus both top teams Lens (2-0) and Lorient (3-0)) and thanks to this finish they are now with 30 points on 5th spot thanks to a better goal difference than Clermont also with 30 points. Also, they have changed a lot their squad prior the season start, including the coach, that’s why their performance is quite a big surprise for me. So far only Aloe left the team. They started 2020 with a narrow defeat 0-1 at Nancy, but I think they should deserved more ( they scored a goal late in game but dis-allowed).
LeMans with a very difficult start of the season after their promotion in Ligue2. Despite their courageous attacking minded games, LeMans won a single game in first 9 games, losing the other 8 and being rock bottom during all this time. But slowly they recovered in 2nd part and due also to a much affordable schedule and a more settled display (defending much better then they don till that point) Le Mans won 5 games and drew twice in last 10 games of first part of the season finishing out of relegation spot, being 15th with 20 points. In last 10 games they lost a single game in front of their fans, surprisingly 1-2 versus another team from the bottom part of the table Chateauroux. Important mid. Boissier left the team (is now with Rodez), as striker Rambaud. In defense Musavu-King is injured. As Valenciennes, also LeMans started 2020 with a defeat 0-1 at home versus Auxerre and their situation remains complicated. Vardin saw red card in this game and will be suspended together with mid Confais. They have signed with 3 new quality players all in the squad for this trip: def Choplin(ex- Ajaccio), mid Rajot(ex-Clermont) and striker Merdji(ex-Auxerre).
I see here one of the surprise of the round. LeMans played many time much better that their position suggest and against a team who like the counterattack play they can surprise also using same weapon. Back LeMans AH0+. gl
