I was surprised to see Wigan beaten by Bournemouth on Saturday however I still believe that Owen Coyle’s team is a top favourite to go up and as they have often done during their time in the Premier League, home matches will be a key factor. It’s their first home game of the season and definitely a must-win match.
Doncaster on their end produced a great display against Blackburn (2-0 home win) and cancelled the horrible 3-1 home loss against Blackpool in the first round. They had a very good away record last season which ended up being the determining factor for their promotion to the Championship.
Nonetheless, in my opinion Wigan are a much better side and will be looking to get back on track immediately after their weekend slipup. The Championship is a funny league and over the years we’ve seen promotion contenders going on a bad run and then finding it difficult to catch up. Wigan are too smart and experienced to let that happen. I believe that even with their current squad they could avoid relegation if they played in the Premier League and expect a solid win on Tuesday.
