Istanbul debuts as Atp 250 tournament this season. They spend big money to bring Federer and Dimitrov (not sure if they gave Dimi money but Fed for sure). I looked long and hard at the draw and I think the normal option and only option with logic is Dimitrov to win the tournament.
Of course Federer is favorite but he win only 1 clay tournament since Roland Garros 2009 (that was BLUE clay). So no red clay since 2009 even if he play some low level tournaments like Estoril. He came here only for money obviously. I think he can be surprised by some player until the final but he has an easy draw so he can make the final. But he can lose to Dimi there.
Dimitrov is not top form this year but this is why I think he will win (strange, but let me talk). He needs a big result and he will be very motivated to win the tournament (not like Federer). And a good thing is that he played well at Monte Carlo with QF result, which is good sign that he is finding form even if Monfils ruined him.
The only other real rival for Dimitrov could be Cuevas, but Cuevas is in bad form lately and lost bad to Bautista Agut in Barcelona 2nd round. There are simply no other players on this draw that can win it unless if they get the week of their life. Maybe Giraldo, but he take 3 games from Nishikori last week in Barcelona ... maybe Kukushkin but come on ... we are already talking SF (of course anything can happen but makes no sense).
Probable road to final for Dimitrov: Golubev, Dodig, Cuevas/Gabashvili, Federer/Giraldo
Dimi will be very motivated to get one over Fed after some bad losses vs him. I look at Dimi's motivation and odds and how he played in Monte Carlo and find the outright bet on him the logic one to make.
