Gloucester - Northampton 🏉

Even at this early stage Northampton have been a bit of a revelation this season. They were a mid-table team last year but currently sit at the top of the table after four wins and one defeat in their opening five matches. Their only defeat came in the opening weekend as they got thrashed 55-24 against Saracens at Twickenham so that game could be considered as a one off but even then Northampton got better as the game went on.

Since then they've won four matches in a row with only one of these matches played away, so perhaps e can have a little concern about their ability to travel and get results. Their only away match came against London Irish who they beat 40-25 while they beat Harlequins last time out. Before that they managed two impressive wins against Leicester and Bath.

Gloucester, on the other hand, are not in good shape. They beat the defending champions, Exeter, in a thrilling opening game but since then their only win as come against the league's whipping boys, Worcester, and even then they only just managed to get over the line 24-19 as Worcester started to come back at them in the second half. They are coming off a poor result last week when they visited Sale and lost 57-10. The only real positive for them coming into this is that they have won their only two home games of the season.

Owen Williams will be making his debut at fly-half for Gloucester after a few good season playing for Leicester, so they will be hoping he adds some spark to them. Northampton, however, will welcome the return of their captain Dylan Hartley who will provide plenty of experience into forwards. I can see this game being close but right now Northampton have a little bit something extra about them. Gloucester will have to keep the likes of Tom Collins on left-wing who leads the lague in clean breask with 15 under control and I think they will have trouble doing that. Gloucester just havent' been scoring enough points having scored over 20 points in just two matches and just one of those has been since their opening day win, although both have been at home.

Gloucester are clearly a better home team than away team but Northampton are in much better form coming into this match. Northampton also have a superb record in recent years against Gloucester. They are unbeaten in nine matches against them since September 2013 with eight wins over that period. I'd make Northampton favourites for this one, so I'd say any odds close to 2.00 are good vaue here.
