Bosnia and Herzegovina will take on Belgium in Zenica. The match holds a massive importance for the hosts, who have been largely disappointing so far in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, winning a single point in two matches with Cyprus and Wales. Bosnia has never lost to Belgium at home.
We all know that Bosnia has a really solid roster with a couple of top class guys playing their football at big European clubs, but the hosts seem unable to get anything together right now. After a disappointing World Cup campaign Bosnia apparently imploded – the 1-2 home loss against Cyprus might have been an accident, but Bosnia was also held to a goalless draw by Wales, and as far as I`m concerned Bosnia could have easily lost that game with Wales having a couple of chances late on. Safet Susic is likely to be sacked if Bosnia loses this game.
Belgium`s amazing young generation of players did very well in the World Cup, losing in the quarters to eventual finalists Argentina, and it was expected that this team can only get better. So far the visitors played just one game in this Euro 2016 campaign, easily winning 6-0 a home against Andorra. Despite that result, Belgium does struggle at times to score goals, the Andorra match was the first time they scored more than 2 goals in 9 matches, including some against very poor opponents.
Lineups:
Bosnia-Herzegovina: Begovic – Mujdza, Sunjic, Hadzic, Lulic – Besic, Medunjanin, Pjanic, T. Susic, Hajrovic – Dzeko
Belgium: Courtois – Alderweireld, Kompany, Lombaerts, Vertonghen – Defour, Nainggolan, De Bruyne, Mertens, Hazard – Lukaku
This is a massive game for Bosnia, and I`m including coach Susic here as well. The hosts simply can`t afford to lose this and I can see a very cautious approach from them tactically, while Belgium will probably be content to play a sterile midfield game, staying safe at the back and waiting for an opening – a draw would not hurt them too much. Expect a cagey first half for Bosnia and my tip here is a draw at half time. I can also see a narrow Belgium win at full time, but I would not be surprised by a draw. Few goals are to be expected as well and I can actually see a 0-0 at half time, but I will stay with the safer pick and bet – as I said, a simple half time draw. Prediction: Bosnia Herzegovina – Belgium 0-1 (0-0 half time).
