Liverpool – Hull City

Liverpool takes on Hull City at Anfield hoping for a 3rd successive Premier League win, but an analysis will suggest that it might be tougher than expected for ‘Pool.

The hosts might have won 2 games on the spin in the Premier League (2-1 West Ham, 3-2 QPR), but both victories were far from impressive – especially last week at QPR when an atrocious home side was all over Liverpool and deserved to at least get a draw, missing some huge chances and losing in the last second. ‘Pool has followed that win with a disappointing 0-3 home defeat to Real Madrid, with the visitors not even trying too much in the second half. I was expecting the Reds to improve after beating West Ham but the two games that followed were even worse. Liverpool’s defense is absolutely rubbish right now (especially at set pieces), but on the bright side they are starting to get players back from injuries and of course you can never rule them out at Anfield.

Hull made some nice investments over the summer break and are surely looking able to finish in the top half of the table this season. They have a statline of 2 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses (to Villa and Man City) and are on the back of a 2-2 draw at Arsenal, a result backed by a solid performance – Hull was not lucky to get that point. Few teams will get easy wins over Hull this season, the visitors are truly a side that is hard to beat and they do not give up against anyone when they are down, scoring lots of goals, being able to create chances. Hull scored twice against both Arsenal and Man City, so against this atrocious Liverpool defense they are looking likely to repeat the scenario.

Sturridge is still out for Liverpool, while Flanagan, Sakho and Suso are also unavailable. Hull has some bad team news here, they will have to do without Dawson, Harper, Jelavic, McGregor and Snodrass, while Robertson is doubtful – the list includes the two main keepers, but Jakupovic already has experience from his start against Arsenal last week.

According to the analysis for the two teams I just can’t look past the value on Hull. The visitors do miss some players, but on the other hand Liverpool could be tired after the grueling clash with Real Madrid, so this could balance things out in this department. I have struggled a little bit with choosing a bet here – do I go for the best value and pick Hull not to lose, potentially finding myself losing a great bet because of a narrow Liverpool win or do I back Hull +1,5 risking very high stakes at much lower odds? I reckon the best tip is somewhere in between, so I will go with Hull to cover the +0,75 asian handicap (half of stakes lost if Liverpool wins by 1 one goal). -1 Asian handicap is also a good, safer choice. The visitors just proved last week that they can take on the big boys away from home (Arsenal) and the way Liverpool is looking, an upset is highly likely.
