Lyon – Reims

Lyon’s last 2 games in Ligue 1 have been disappointing. They drew in Corsica 0-0, in a game where Bastia parked the bus. After that they played vs St Etienne, in the local derby and they were destroyed 3-0. St Etienne made a great game and Olympique Lyon was a disaster, even missing a penalty, so not the best of form for Olympique coming into this match.

However this is the first game at home after 2 away games and i expect a big reaction from Lyon. This year’s Lyon’s side are doing pretty well, and they were 3rd before the last 2 games. Now they have fallen to 6th. The hosts have just 1 new missing player, central defender Bisevac. He is important but not irreplaceable.

Reims does not miss any important player, except maybe for de Preville. Reims are an organized team that come after 5 undefeated matches. They got 3 wins and 2 draws in the last 5. They did well to defeat Bastia last week. They opened the score early but were equalized soon from a corner kick, ended up winning 2-1. Reims have the organization to frustrate any opponent. They are mostly a defensive team, although the 22 goals received do not show this. They got some nasty defeats, 3-1 at St Etienne and 0-5 at home to Marseille, but they did manage to draw 2-2 with PSG at home and 1-1 with Monaco away. At home they defeated Lille, Bordeaux and Toulouse, just to mention some above average teams.

Despite all that i said and despite the fact that Lyon are not in their best form i feel they will win today. Before the last 2 matches Lyon showed great quality and very nice fluence in attack. They pass really nice, and create chances out of nothing. They sometimes lack fighting spirit, but in this game their quality should be enough to see them get the 3 points.
