Lille – Evian

Lille hosts Evian TG in a match that was postponed in December because of the Davis Cup final (held in Lille).

The end of 2014 was an absolute disaster for Lille … a single win in the last 17 matches (!!) plus one via penalties in the Cup. Lille is now on the 13th place. For sure the hosts have worked hard in the mid season break to make sure they will play much better football in 2015 but it remains to be seen if that will happen. It might not be so easy to improve considering that Lille has players out for the African Cup of Nations in addition to other injuries: Delaplace, Martin, Lopes, Soumaoro, Mendes, Souare, Gueye and Diaby are all unavailable … also Origi is highly questionable. They lost the first match in 2015 2-0 vs. Bastia so obviously they have not recovered yet.

Evian Thonon Gaillard is not in a better situation than Lille … 18th place, 3 consecutive losses in Ligue 1 and big problems with relegation. Evian did win the first match in 2015, 3-0 vs. Bobigny, but the opponent was poor. Visitors play very poor defensive football … with 32 goals allowed they are tied for the worst defensive record in Ligue 1. Also they lost 7 out of 9 on the road, so not much is going Evian’s way. N’Sikulu, Benezet, Kone, Mensah and Mongongu are out. Benezet has a chance to play though.

I really feel this game has a good chance to go over 2,5. Lille is an underish team, but they have to go for the kill today … no two ways about it. Evian is horrible defensively but they can score … I see Lille playing an open football game, score some goals but also concede on counters. The odds for the over are fantastic so my tip will be over 2,5 goals on the under/over market. Probably a close Lille win will also happen. Correct score prediction: Lille – Evian TG 2-1.
