Swansea are favorites in this game mostly because of 2 reasons. Their very good performance in the first part of the Premier League season, and last week’s 1-0 win over Southampton, away from home, obtained despite having many missing players. However, i don’t think miracles happen 2 times in a row. Swansea lost Wilfried Bony to Man. City and Gylfi Sigurdsson to a suspension. These are their 2 best players, along with Ki. Well, Ki will be in the squad, but I don’t think Swansea have enough to win.
First of all Swansea does not have the same motivation as Sunderland. They are a good home team, but at this point of the season they have no clear objective. Relegation is far away while the European spots are also one step too far.

Sunderland is a team that has above average firepower in attack but some serious concentration issues. As the season goes by and Sunderland is closer and closer to the relegation zone the players begin to focus better, and their performances improve. That’s what I expect to happen here. Sunderland has good attacking players, Fletcher, Adam Johnson and Defoe will all start. It’s a very potent offensive trio.
Unfortunately they miss Wickham (regular player, until Defoe arrived) and Cattermole, regular DM. These 2 absences make Sunderland a bit weaker, they represent a handicap, but they do have good replacements. Giaccherini (ex-Juventus) and Ricky Alvarez (ex-Inter) will deputize in their place. These players have even more quality than the 2 players they will replace, unfortunately, like many other foreign players in England, they did not adapt too well. It’s fair to say that if Wickham and Cattermole would be fit, Alvarez and Giaccherini would be bench-warmers.
I see a match that will favor Sunderland. Sunderland likes when the opponent takes initiative. That’s how they managed 2 x 0-0 with Chelsea and Liverpool. They also made a good game in Manchester, vs City, coming back from 2-0 only to lose 3-2.
My pick for this game is Sunderland +0.5 handicap and I will stake my usual 8 units on the prediction. Good Luck!
