Sabine Lisicki and Flavia Pennetta meet in an Indian Wells quarterfinal that could end up being a little bit more one sided than the odds suggest.
I wasn`t particularly impressed with Lisicki so far in this tournament. Obviously she did play good tennis to reach this stage, but not anything special. She almost lost to Vinci in her first match, easily got past a poor Sara Errani in her next and finally recorded a 6-4 6-4 win over Caroline Garcia, her best match of the tournament against an in form opponent. Garcia however looked a little bit tired after playing so many (and long) matches recently and she could not cope with Sabine Lisicki’s power.
Pennetta is on the back of a superb three set win over Sharapova, with the Russian playing pretty good for most of the match. It was a great display of tennis by Penneta and it was the first set she lost all tournament after easily dispatching Madison Brengle and Samantha Stosur.

The Head 2 Head between the two is 0-0, they never met before. I can see Pennetta’s panache giving her an edge in terms of matchup against Lisicki’s sheer force.
Simply put, Flavia Penneta is playing better tennis than Lisicki in this tournament as far as I`m concerned and I expect the versatile Italian not only to show a superior level, but also outplay Sabine in terms of Head 2 Head styles and matchup. Flavia’s versatility and experience should help her counter Lisicki’s relatively one dimensional power play, eventually breaking Sabine’s confidence and running away with the match in the late stages.
I won’t bet on any kind of handicaps as women’s tennis can be tricky with a lot of ups and downs, but I fully expect Flavia Pennetta to win, so that is my tip. Odds dropping big time on this bet, but anything over 1.50 is worth taking with high stakes in my book. Prediction: Sabine Lisicki – Flavia Pennetta 6-7 2-6.
