Serena Williams continues here comeback in Indian Wells with a semifinal clash against Romanian Simona Halep.
Serena was not particularly impressive so far in this tournament, but it`s not a surprise considering the fact that she was saving her energy for the final rounds. The world No.1 lost a set to Stephens and had some small problems last round against Bacsinzky, but overall she won her matches without too much sweat and will face her biggest challenge yet in the form of Simona Halep.
Similar to Serena, Halep was not at her best so far in this tournament. The Romanian lost a set in 3 of her 4 matches so far (toughest one was against Suarez Navarro) but, again similar to Serena, in the end she was never in danger of losing. Reaching the semis at the Indian Wells is Halep’s best performance this year and she is sure to give it her all in an attempt to produce a famous upset.

Serena Williams leads the H2H 4-1 and generally handed Halep solid beatings, but there`s also the interesting history from last years’ WTA finals in Singapore – Halep gave Williams a historic straight sets beating in the group stage, 6-0 6-2, only to be blown out by the American in the final, 6-0 6-3. A matchup and Head 2 Head analysis will clearly state that Serena is vulnerable to Halep only when she loses focus or / and is not motivated – otherwise, Halep’s baseline game can be easily countered and broken down by the American.
My first thought here was a value bet on Serena to win 2-1, but after a closer analysis I just can’t see Halep snatching a set. The Romanian is not in her absolute best form and in these circumstances it will be next to impossible to challenge a Serena that, even if she`s not in the absolute best form herself, is very motivated to do well in Indian Wells after missing so many years from this tournament. We know that Serena will improve her level in the semis, I`m not sure that Halep will.
If a motivated Serena destroyed Halep when the Romanian played the best tennis of her life in Singapore last year, I can not see Williams losing a set here. The odds are too high for Serena to win in my opinion and I`m not surprised they are dropping. My tip is Serena Williams to win in straight sets, 2-0. Prediction: Serena Williams – Simona Halep 6-4 6-3.
