Chelsea – Stoke City

Mourinho Terry Chelsea contractChelsea takes on Stoke City at Stamford Bridge, seeking to avoid any potential worries in their race for the Premier League title.

The Blues are not exactly in their best days right now, with the Champions League exit against PSG followed by a couple of unconvincing performances in the Premier League – especially on the defensive end. Still, Chelsea is on the back of a 2-1 win at Hull City and has a 6 point advantage at the top of the standings with one less game played than their competitors.

Stoke has two losses in a row against West Brom and Crystal Palace. The visitors looked somewhat tired and apathic, posting poor performances in both of those matches. The game against West Brom broke a run of 8 consecutive games in which Stoke scored, a run that likely will not happen again – Stoke after all remains one of the worst offensive sides in the Premier League. How long could they have kept scoring with 1-2 shots on goal?

Team news & lineups:

Obi Mikel is the only absentee for Chelsea. Diego Costa is also slightly doubtful, but he will most likely start the game. As far as Stoke is concerned, they will not be able to count on Odemwingie, Moses, Bojan and Muniesa.

Chelsea: Courtois – Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta – Matic, Fabregas – Hazard, Oscar, Willian – Costa

Stoke City: Begovic – Bardsley, Wollscheid, Shawcross, Pieters – Whelan, N’Zonzi – Arnautovic, Adam, Diouf – Walters

Mourinho has been livid about Chelsea’s recent performances on the defensive end of the pitch and surely he worked intensively on that matter in the last two weeks. A home match against the goal-shy Stoke is the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to finally record another clean sheet and I am confident they will do just that. Stoke managed to generally score 1 goal per game in the last two months, but they did not face an opponent of Chelsea’s caliber – especially not away – and today they miss three key offensive pieces from the lineup. My tip is a Chelsea win to nil. Prediction: Chelsea – Stoke City 2-0.

Pick: Chelsea wins to nil
Odds: 1.77 @ Winner
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 6.16
Event date: 4 April
